Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

First off I would be leary of buying an amp off Craigslist. A modded amp with no warranty, no way in hell. And then there is this thing the ad speaks for itself.

It's a Park.

Park it in the corner and play something else.

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

So a beat up 1960 cab woth maybe $300 tops, and a Windsor that stock would fetch 250 in mint condition, however model takes that value to almost 0 since there's no telling what the mods really are or if they're done properly, and if they did check out would still drop value to about 150. Summary, at least $200 over priced. I'll pass...

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

It's always sad to see a product ruined by an owner who was so ashamed of it that he had to try to turn it into something it wasn't.

Interesting trivia tidbit:

Marshall made amplifiers with the same circuits as their regular lineup but called them "Park" amplifiers.

For example:

Yeah. That was my little marshall-esque joke for those in the know.

I remember seeing what (I suppose) was the equivalent of the MG series, in the MF catalogs, back in the early 90's.

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

Those old 90s SS Parks actually had a pretty decent crunch tone. I used to have a 10w BITD. At the time I a/b ed it against a Marshall proper...whatever the 10w ss was at the time....G10?....and the Park had better tone. The Marshall was more hair metal and grunge, the Park was more AC/DC & Thin Lizzy.

Though the parks were sometimes available with features that you could not find on the normal Marshall amps. Like the Park 75's which were basically 50 watt 1987's but with 2 KT88's giving 75 watts instead of 50. There was also a 150 version. They are incredibly inconsistant though as they were used to dry up left over parts stock from Marshall so they tended to be slapped together with whatever they had and many component values were used that were "close enough"

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

Not sure why you think it's so sketchy. The ad is honest about what it is. The retrofit looks decent, though I don't know why the owner didn't go the extra mile and put on Marshall style knobs. With the cab included, it's not a bad deal at all. I would want to see gutshots to make sure the mods weren't done by some hack, but if I were in the market for a half stack and in the area, I'd at least go try it out.

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

IIRC the old Park's were pat of a distributorship deal and they were mainly marketed as keyboard amps?

Not sure about the keyboard part... might be right... But it was a way that Jim Marshall could cut his friend who had been the distributor for the north of england a deal, after Marshall signed a distributor ship deal with Rose Morris.

The really weird Not Marshall Marshalls are the Narbs, Ken Bran was Marshalls engineer at the time and to use up old stock they slapped together some amps and put Kens surname on them... backwards.

"All the work is perfect and better than original"

ha ha ha awesome!

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

Well, your ears will tell you part of the story. At least with Craigslist, you get to see what you're buying first. Too much money? Yeah, I think so. Shredder's amp? Would have to be some great mods. I love my Windsor, but no way in hell is it a "shredder". Maybe this one is now?

Re: Oh its a Peavey Marshall now I get it.

I was looking at some Windsors on GC used last week
also looked at a mods page which said one could mod a Windsor or Valveking
into a more Marshall like amp with some resistor changes

maybe this is what the guy has
