Re: Oh, Lil Stopper Thingie

Those stops are a good way to mitigate the irritation of a formerly-floating Floyd with mushroomed knife edges.

I used to be a Floyd guy. I still have 2 and know a few meedly-meedly tricks but I can’t stand messing with them, anymore.

Re: Oh, Lil Stopper Thingie

I have one of those but have never used it.
There is another product called a Black Box which, I believe keeps the trem full floating but sets a “zero” point that the trem always returns to. This allows the use of a D-Tuna as well as the guitar staying in tune if you break a string.
The Tremsetter does the same thing too but requires more modification to the guitar.

I personally prefer the trem to be up against the body as a “dive” only setup although one of my guitars is a full floater with a Tremsetter.
If it was good enough for Eddie, it’s good enough for me.

I also prefer a decked Floyd. More contact between the bridge and body. I've got one guitar a Floyd and it's not even routed for full floating operation. These days I don't use trems much at all but if I were to snag another Floyd equipped guitar, it would have to to decked.

I've used that stopper a few times with no problems. Cheap and effective.

Re: Oh, Lil Stopper Thingie

I prefer my dive only floyds. But, for my full floaters, when Im doing set ups, string changes or maintenance, I take a ruler, wrap it in a soft polishing cloth (so it wont scratch the body) and put it under the back side of the trem. That holds it in place, and at the correct level.

I don't own any fully floating Floyds anymore, but when I changed strings on my recessed Floyds, I used to put a 9V battery under the back of the bridge.

Re: Oh, Lil Stopper Thingie

I’m surprised at all the hate. The ability to turn a floating trem into down only trem temporarily seems awesome. Alternate tunings, heavy handed palm muting or just a little different tone seems prett cool.

Given that most people here have such a diverse armada of guitars that they could just as easily grab another guitar that is fairly similar with a decked Floyd, I can see where a lot of this is coming from.
