Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

After years of thinking "meh" about these guitars (mainly because it seemed like everyone and their mother had one at the time i started getting good with my playing) and knowing they were too expensive for me anyways, I was handed one of these yesterday at the local GC while helping an acquaintance test out an amp...

...and I REALLY liked it. A lot.

Man, a good GAS attack is all I need right now. Argh! I really dug the tones and how the thing felt, most importantly. I liked it WAY more than any Gibson I've ever tried, although the LP Standard Faded with a 60s neck was pretty sweet. Light, comfy, resonant, easy action... nice axe.

Another item on the "someday" list!

48 views and no responses... gues I'm just THAT late on the PRS boat. :D

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

Check out one of the McCartys with a solid rosewood neck.

Then don't be surprised if you cry a little as you leave the store without it.

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

I just think all of us that saw it, looked at it and said, "Yep. I'd love to have one, too".

It's hard to drive up dialogue when there's no counterpoint...just ask talk radio show hosts.

want PRS GAS bad? .... play a grissom model for a while and really work out the interactivity of the 3 way, and the tone and volume controls ... man it has a LOT of mojo built in

A nice PRS gas attack can be something of beauty, or something of devastation. Once you get your mind set on it, it becomes a disease.

All I can say is that if you really want one, save up your change, as when you do have it, it will become the type of instrument you will be glad to play every time you open that case.

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

You won't hear me telling you to stay away :D

I've sold all of my musical gear, except for two guitars: a Cu22 and a PRS SC. I just can't get rid of them. They don't work for everyone, but they sure work for me.

And this isn't directed at you B2D, but does anyone else feel like it is finally starting to become acceptable to like PRS guitars now? I used to get flack about my guitars on a regular basis, as it seemed really cool to dislike PRS. But it seems like the tides are starting to change... well, if this board is any indication of things.

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

I always thought PRS's were cool until I started dicking around on the internet, then all the TGP people with Thorns and Tylers crap on PRS like they're junk.

I have, do, and will think PRS's are cool.

Lol. Know what the best part of owning a PRS is?

When you play and girls come to see you and say '' Your guitar is sooo nice! Can I touch it?''

i have thought they were cool since 1987 when i saw/played my first one ... took me nearly 20 yrs to be able to afford one but the one i have now wont have another owner as long as i am alive .. never bothered me whether or not others thought they were cool or not

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

I daren't go and play one, it would take an awful long time for me to save up for one, and it's the sort of GAS I could do without. :D

Oh Lordy... anything with a rosewood neck is hard for me not to like. Ernie Ball's been releasing Ball Family Reserve versions of their guitars with Rosewood necks and I almost walked out with one (it was a JP6) when I first played it.

I just think all of us that saw it, looked at it and said, "Yep. I'd love to have one, too".

True. no real counterpoint to the OP, just yakkin'. :D

As far as people crapping on PRS or saying they're not that special... people say that about just about every guitar. I trust my ears and hands and pay them no mind. I've discovered that these are really cool guitars, and I guess I just never started to pay attention to them until now.

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

i love love love the maple neck swamp ash special. i think that might be the single best guitar ive ever laid hands on.

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

I think they're absolutely lovely. I probably wouldn't buy one any time soon, as I have a mental disease which makes me scared to play guitars with fancy finishes (and guilty about not playing them!), but I'll remain envious of anyone who owns one :D

Oh man, don't get me started on the swamp ash. Same neck as I have, except for the maple board. It's so comfortable that it's incredible. I maintain that guitars like the Swamp Ash, the Johny Hiland model and the CE series have the best, most stable bolt on necks I have ever seen.

Great, now my swamp ash gas is back.......

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

I've been Anti-PRS for years and I too now have gas for a couple of them. I played a bunch that just spoke to me. Not as loudly as the 1979 Les Paul I just bought, but darn close...

Re: Oh man... GAS is not what I need right now.

What makes the rosewood necks so wonderful?? Never played one..

People are very competative and like to brag and think that their stuff is the best. Many forums are filled with bandwagon jumpers that gloat about thier uber pricey builder come lately guitar and NOTHING compares... I figure they either do this to try to justify the wicked price tag or dont even have one and are trying to be cool.
I know a few years ago, it seemed like I was the ONLY guy on the planet that didnt play a Suhr thru a Bogner ecstasy... I thought it was so cool how all of these 13 year old kids had gear like that..

Anyhow. I started staying away from some of the snobsites and learned to take the others with a grain of salt...

As far as PRS', Ive always love the look of them, but the never really impressed me to play them.. (thankfully, cuz I cant afford them) I did play one the other day that I could really get used to..
