Oh No! A New Project...

Re: Oh No! A New Project...

Here's an update...

Did a little testing with strap button positions last week (you may have seen my other thread), but decided to stick with stock locations for now. So, strap buttons are mounted. Went with Gotoh oversized buttons, my favorite.

Pickups have been direct-mounted to the body and are awaiting final wiring, which I'll probably do this coming weekend. I went with a Bill Lawrence L-90 "XL" 8.0H in the bridge and a Kinman Big-Nine-O in the neck. The Big-Nine-O is halfway between a Strat single coil and a P-90 in tone. Trying to decide whether or not to install a push-pull for coil splitting. Either way, should be a great sounding setup!

Also finished reshaping the headstock to the Warmoth "Warhead" shape. Came out really well considering I don't have any formal wood working tools at the moment. See for yourself:

Next steps:

  • Refinish the sanded part of the headstock
  • Install pots and wiring
  • Mount tuners and bridge
  • Rock out!

I'm really liking that color. But I absolutely LOVE that flamed neck!!

Indeed, the headstock shape is an improvement. Good job.

Re: Oh No! A New Project...

The world needs more Teles with trems! Similar to what I've been thinking about building from Warmoth, but I'm leaning toward a satin transparent finish over ash or alder, maybe with a pickguard, and probably going all out Floyd, still figuring it out.

Very nice! The body is awesome and the
neck is beautiful. Can't wait to see her
finished. Great work on the headstock
reshape. You done good!

Peace,

Darrin

Re: Oh No! A New Project...

On a more serious note, the wife and family took up my entire weekend. I got zero work/projects done. So, wiring is pushed out another few days...ugh!

Simple projects shouldn't be this hard to finish!

To be fair, I'm currently enrolled in a full load of graduate courses while working 20 hours per week, plus volunteering regularly and devoting an additional chunk of my time to both research and helping to develop some cool community health programs, but still...this is proof I need more ME time!

What's really sad is that I actually have another Warmoth project I'd love to unveil which is also in need of final wiring.

Maybe I'll get both wrapped up later this week and do a double NGD!

:headbang:

Ok, I tried to add more flame to the neck, but I simply couldn't find anywhere to put it...suggestions?
