Re: OK Guys - my turn to ask for suggestions for a PU set

Lew, I believe you would truly love a custom/59 hybrid with either an A2 or A5 mag in the bridge position. I had the a5 version in my alder bodied Strat and it was the best all around humbucker I ever used...it had a very complex tone.

If I go back to an humbucker in the bridge, it will be an A5 custom/59 hybrid.

I'd know, because I bought this same pickup Bungalowbill speaks of.....and he's right, it's my favorite humbucker in a strat...the A5 Custom5/59.
I bought it off him, and it's in my alder/rosewood silverburst strat, along with 1 6.3K neck single coil in an HS configuration and a Gibson style 3 way.

My ultimate suggestion would be the C5/59 hybrid and a Jazz neck.

Yeah, judging by the other pickups Lew likes and by my expereince with this hybrid, I say this is a GREAT idea!

+1 on the C5/59 Hybrid and Jazz neck.

IIRC, Lew has said he has not tried the APH neck. I would suggest that as a jazz alternative.

BTW Lew, the Hybrid sounds great in a 24.75 or a 25.5! The APH is a bit warmer yet, a bit more bell like than the PG IMO. It provides good clarity. C will be able to fully clue you in. He is great at describing this stuff you know. Since the guitar is a 24.75 scale it is kind of hard for me not to suggest the Phat Cats though. Dam do they sound good! If it were a 25.5 I would say go the PATB route.

So, I say the Hybrid/APH or 2 Phat Cats.

I say go for a Phat Cat in the neck, tapped, and get the EVH Split. Get the middle position in phase, neck pickup normal, bridge split for some hum free. Maybe. Do i have it right guys?

Thanks Guys!

You know what? I'm going with pair of Phat Cats. I don't have any guitars with P-90's and I'm installing them today.

Many thanks for the suggestions!

Lew

Good choice, Lew. ;) Let us know how it sounds.

OHOHOHOHOHOH!!!! Phat Cats in a Strat!!!! Cool!

Re: OK Guys - my turn to ask for suggestions for a PU set

i think you will really dig the phat cat in the bridge. not sure about the neck as i havent tried one in that position of a short scale strat, but i think a low 7k neck would be great. unfortunately the almost 8k neck can be a little too round.

i was going to suggest a jazz neck/patb3 combo

Jazz neck or Deamon neck. Both are great, and have different and deliscious flavors.

Re: OK Guys - my turn to ask for suggestions for a PU set

A pair of Phat Cats seems like the right choice, since it is most different from the dream guitar you alread own.

I have the Dimebucker and the Jazz in my guitar, but it is mahogany, so it would probably sound totally different in that guitar.

question: What difference does the scale length make?

Re: OK Guys - my turn to ask for suggestions for a PU set

neck: a2pro (2nd place, a5 a2pro, aka Jazz neck)
bridge: Brobucker (2nd place, a5 EVH).

Re: OK Guys - my turn to ask for suggestions for a PU set
