Quite often I buy a guitar at a good price, use it for a while, then sell it for more than I bought it for, then trade up to something nicer. I'm getting to the point where I'm able to sample some nice american built guitars for a period of time which is nice. Anyway. I've got a nice Parker Nitefly, pearl white, two cool rails and a distortion bridge. It's a pretty cool guitar. Nice features but also has some that I don't like, the maple body which makes the guitar very bright and snappy, and the compound radius. I'm considering selling it and buying a G&L Legacy that I found used. Nice one, all single coils, 90's model. I'd just be interested in knowing which you guys would choose. I might actually make a couple extra bucks on the deal too after selling the parker.

Personally, I'd prefer the G&L. I'm a total superstrat whore, though, and in a real shred-like phase ATM. I prefer the cosmetics and more traditional feel, as well as the Floyd, neck w/out a gloss finish (unless yours doesnt have one?), and the lack of a pickguard.

*EDIT* Totally dismiss this post, I read 'Legacy' as 'Invader.' :smack:

If you don't care for the feel of the Parker, then maybe a G&L would be more up your alley.

Personally, I like Parkers alot. The Nitefly H-S-S is cool because you can install regular pickups easily. The necks are nice and wide and upper fret access is a breeze. I've often contemplated whether I should pick one up, but they aren't for everyone. They are a radical looking guitar (the upper bout does get in the way for some players). This may be wrong, but isn't the HSS swamp ash for the body?

I like the Parker because it's different, but G&L IS quality. My Skyhawk kicks and so does the Legacy's I've played (and from what I've gathered, Gear Ho's taken a liking to his Legacy Deluxe ;) )

I don't remember giving you any pole? hahaha

My brutally honest advise is to sell the Parker before a pearl white Praying Mantis goes WAY outta style and drops in value. Don't be the guy who still owns a set of Simmons Electric drums! hahaha Once you own a G&L, you won't even remember the Mantis.

The upper bout doesn't get in the way and the body is really comfortable. They do play like butter though, especially with the stainless frets. The swamp ash body is on the new SA models. Mine is virtually the same except it was made in '97. They were still using maple bodies back then. The Piezo is a neat feature too but I don't really find myself using it much. I have my acoustic/electric and then I have my electric guitars. I never found a need to cross the two. It just feels weird to me when you get down near the nut and it's a very round (to me) 10" radius whereas higher it's a 13".

praying mantis! :laugh2: sweet, it does kinda look like one. Damnit, every time I pick the thing up I'm going to think that now.

Re: Okay another poll from Gear Ho jr. (yours truly)

Hey, I found out on a Geico radio commercial that my state's official insect IS a Praying Mantis, that explains it all :D

Re: Okay another poll from Gear Ho jr. (yours truly)

Nah, I'm just joking. The Parkers are good guitars. I do have a feeling they're kind of a timely guitar, though. If you're thinking of selling it, it may be better to do it while they're still popular. Who knows, maybe I'm dead wrong, and they'll actually be desireable collectibles, years down the line. It'll be awhile for that, though.

IMO i'd sell the parker for sure...but that's just me, i never played a parker i liked that much to be honest so i vote for G&L for sure...or a real nice purple ibanez hahaha :newangel:

Yeah it's hard to say, although since Washburn bought parker I noticed they've bastardized the line of guitars. There is a line of import models now instead of all super premium grade USA guitars which Parker was known for. If you ever pick up a USA Parker it is perfect in every sense of the word. It will be set up perfectly and will have no imperfections whatsoever. Their QC is nuts. Now there will be import parkers with inevitable flaws because they are cheaply made. They didn't even bother to brand them differently or do a sub-brand of parker. Mine was made in '97 so it's the "golden age" of Parker. :laugh2:

Re: Okay another poll from Gear Ho jr. (yours truly)

I'm partial to G & Ls, and I've never played a Parker, and just don't see them on stage a lot

easy choice for me

Re: Okay another poll from Gear Ho jr. (yours truly)

if it were me...i'd go for the G&L...great gutiars, not that the parker's aren't, i just like G&L's better?!

Re: Okay another poll from Gear Ho jr. (yours truly)

Your on a guitar buying roll here aren't you!

I love G&L's but that's just my preference, I've played a number of parkers and they are fine playing instruments, for someone like me who is a more traditional (old) kind of a guy the parkers just wouldn't look right. I say go for the G&L, make the money on the parker while you can - buy another one in a couple of years for half the price of what you got for this one.

Re: Okay another poll from Gear Ho jr. (yours truly)

Well I think my decision has been made, so:

Anyone possibly interested in a REALLY NICE pearl white Parker Nitefly with Duncan pickups?
