Old Aerosmith Tone

Re: Old Aerosmith Tone

Sounds cool Scott....how long are you gonna be down for?

If I can't make the show, maybe we can meet up somewhere else along the line.

Re: Old Aerosmith Tone

True, Scott......the under 21 crowd drove most of the paying......read drink buying....customers out of Ybor.....that and the fact that other places catering to the yuppie scum/metrosexual crowd have opened in South Tampa and St Pete. :laugh2: Sounds like an interesting show. By the way.....what band do you delong to?

Re: Old Aerosmith Tone

I notice a name missing from here that has a TON to do with the tone and flavor of Aerosmith from this time period, Jack Douglas. You guys were on the right track when you mentioned Cheap Trick and their first issue. Jack produced that too. :smokin:

KG- cant help you with that tone. Combonation has ALWAYS been my favorite from Rocks from the very first spin of the lp in the Summer of '76 30 years ago!!! Been to 42 Aerosmith shows since then. Check out photos in this thread from the January Tampa shows. Whole thread is cool too.

Here is a shot with one of Joe's "Chassis" amps. It actually has a Plexi cover over it.

Re: Old Aerosmith Tone

Great thread to bring back! I've always been a fan of that old Aerosmith stuff, especially ROCKS. Not a bad moment on that one! Rats in the Cellar gets me going every time! Something about Combination always got me too. My band used to do Seasons of Wither, Toys in the Attic, Walking the Dog, Sick as a Dog, Last Child, I'm sure there's more. Some great guitar tones on "Rock and A hard Place" too, even though we're not talking Perry/Whitford. Jailbreak and Lightning Strikes come to mind.

Re: Old Aerosmith Tone

Small Fender amps, for sure...Tweeds, and Brownface deluxe..One of the most solid, gear facts, is the use of the color sound overdrive pedals; all over Rocks and Toys in the Attic. I've got two of those pedals. Plug that into any good combo, and your there, or at least real close. Phenomenal pedal

What, no love for Jimmy Crespo???

I just saw him a few months back playing with an 80's cover band open air in Downtown Vegas. Very nice guy and seem generally happy to be recognized from his Aerosmith days.

In regards to what Perry used the answer is simply everything. The warehouse has every piece of gear you could imagine. It also had amazing one of a kind Aerosmith stuff fans made. The few times I saw Joe there was alway a mix of old Marshalls and Silverface heads on the side of the stage powering the cabs. In regards to the Travis Bean Joe said it ws the only guitar he could play out of the box needing no setup what so ever.

I was in high school in the early 70's.
Saw Aerosmith 10's of times.
Even saw 'em at a high school dance once.
