Re: Old hot stacks

Lol,I agree I think I'm leavin her as is cause its playing so well, ill jinks it just to put a flashy pickguard on it!!

Re: Old hot stacks

Not sure exactly either, but I think they are kinda cool that way, they stick out from other pickups, lol.

I also happen to know a great tech and luthier, who has quite a few replacement covers including these!

Re: Old hot stacks

I've always wondered why they made them that color???

So you could tell they are Duncans from a hundred yards? Or just for the sake of matching to a tortoise pickguard?

I wonder how these duncan stacks sound... Marzinno, have you got some clips by any chance?

It was before my time so I don't really know if this is true or not. What I heard is that the molding house did the first dimensional samples for the solid cover Hot Stack in that color just because that's what was in the mold. They weren't color matching so they didn't care about the color. Some folks at SD liked that color so much they ran the production run in the same color. True or rumor? I have no idea. But Brent Mason made the color famous.

Re: Old hot stacks

Thanks Evan! Marzinno...can you give us some clips?
I've wondered about these for years but there's not much
in the way of youtube vids to get an idea of how they sound.

Re: Old hot stacks

I have a soundcloud, search Marzinno Lembo there is the same pic next to the clip, I think I was clean and dirty in the same clip,if not tell me how to post some here,I'm a dumbass lol

Re: Old hot stacks

Lol not sure if u could spot a difference from a hundred yards , but they definitely aren't on the shelf at every guitar store

Re: Old hot stacks

Those were my first aftermarket pickups. I didnt like em much but that was my own stoopid fault. I wired them in parallel instead of series. Live and learn hey? I was only 19 and didint know my ass from my elbow.
