old SJB-1 Specs

Hi everyone,

I bought a few months ago a so-called SJB-1 Pickup set on ebay for my jazz bass. When I check the specs with a multimeter, it shows a quite weak resistance compared to the specs seen on the SD web site:

6.65 and 6.52 kohm, while i should see, according to the SD website, 9.2 and 9.5 k.

Do you know if they change the specs of the pickups in the time. I know that these pickups are quite old (prior to 2002 for sure and certainly even much older)

Or maybe did i get fooled ?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Re: old SJB-1 Specs

Can you post pictures? Even with extreme temperature changes, those measurements are quite far off.

Re: old SJB-1 Specs

with the cover off can you take a few close ups of the pup?

I want to see the coil itself and the hookup wires

Re: old SJB-1 Specs

Hi everybody

I am the ebay buyer of cordobesfranchute's "SJB1" pick ups. I've bought these pickups to fits on a home-made bass, which i will build in a few weeks.

cordobesfranchute sent me the PUs fastly in seymour duncan SJB1 boxes, but I did not have the time to test them immediately.

The photos with measures cordobesfranchute has posted are mines, I've sent it to him because he asked me to, asking for a proof of the resistance difference, which is more or less 9,5 kohms for a SJB1. As you can see, more or less 6,6 kohms for the pickups I've bought him thinking they were SJB1. I've seen several times some parts of cloth adhesive wire on the pickup wire, on low-cost instruments pickups as on high-grade ones, so...

I've start a dispute on paypal because I'm quite sure these pickups are not SJB1, and the seller can't proof me they are despite of all the elements that makes me say they are not (resistance difference, connection wire difference and logo/reference/serial number absence).

It's a bit hard to trust a 7 feedbacks ebay seller who don't bring me any proof of the origin of the pickups I've bought him...

I build guitars for around 10 years now, and never seen such a resistance difference, whenever the connections wires have been changed.

In addition, there is no indication on the pickups, no number, no logo, not even a rest of glue of a past sticker on it... Absolutely nothing that can makes someone say these are seymour SJB1 more than any other jazzbass type pickups.

So, here are some other pics I've made of the PUs, first ones with the ohmmeter, and others of the front/back/sides of the pickups. Nothing proves these are SJB1, and it is just impossible that a 8 inches connection wire makes a 3kohm resistance, don't you think? So I don't think the seller sold me what was mentioned in the ebay announce.

But well, if i'm wrong, just bring me the proof, thanks !
