Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

i believe that its basically a twin reverb with six 10"s

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

Ah...the Super Six. Basically a Twin Reverb with six 12" speakers...those aren't 10s. It has two smaller brothers; the Quad Reverb with four 12s and, of course, the Twin Reverb with two 12s.

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

A twin with, gulp, SIX 12"?!
Are you trying to kill people?
Is this what the "sound wave" weapons were based on?

Having said that, I bet it sounds awesome when cranked.

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

No, no no!

The Super Six was indeed a Twin Reverb with six 10-inch speakers. (Yes, this is a COMBO amp we're talking about here, kiddies!) Or, think of it as a Super Reverb with 1.5x the speakers and 2x the power (ignore the whole recifier question in this over-simplified analyisis).

The Quad Reverb was a Twin with four 12-inch speakers.

Derek Trucks recently switched to a PAIR of Super Six's when he found his usual Super Reverbs weren't loud enough for big shows with the ABB. Holy F Crap, can you imagine how loud that must be?

Billy Zoom from X and (I believe) Albert Collins are proponents of the dreaded Quad Reverb.

I think they only made the Super Six during the CBS era. How "good" an amp it is can be roughly determined by what sort of Master Volume it has. No master is best, non-push/pull master is OK, and the push/pull boost master is probably the worst. On the other hand, the master volume circuit can always be disconnedted and the amp blackfaced easily enough.

I imagine you can get a good price on that Super Six - it's so incredibly impractical there can't be much demand-side competition for it. This is, of course if you have a use for a incredibly loud, very clean amp that you'll probably want to leave in one place pretty much forever. It would be a great amp for someone who wants an alternative to the usual, everyday amps, and wants to get all his doomy dirt from pedals.

he had a pair of super sixes made and used them for one tour with the abb but then got his prs amp and has been using that with the brothers. he was still using his old supers for the dtb until they went on hiatus

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

unless you have to carry the cabinet up stairs

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

Well I'll be darned...those are supposed to have six 10s in them! Sorry about the mis-information. The one and only Super Six I have had in my shop had 12" Jensens in it...it never dawned on me that someone may have swapped speakers.

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

I want to stand about 5 feet in front of that amp w/ my guitar and turn it to 7!!!!!

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

Best get any reproducin' you & the missus have in mind outta the way first.

Re: Old vintage Fender Reverb 6x10

I used to work with & mix FOH for a band that did upwards of 250 dates a year and they had a PAIR of Super Sixes in full-on flight cases. One for the guitarist & one for the keyboard player... putting a Rhodes & Nordlead through there.

Incredibly loud and incredibly clean.

Stupidly heavy in the cases but they actually made 'em easier to move around... casters are good!!!
