Older Peaveys on Craigslist

I can't find a lot about these amps, but they're going for super cheap in my area.

Peavey Studio Pro 110
Peavey Express 112

Are either of them gig worthy?

Re: Older Peaveys on Craigslist

as far as i can tell, the studio pro 110 is gig worthy. i tried out one a couple of months ago. they're still in stock here but the numbers are getting smaller.

I've never had a speaker smaller than 12 inches. Does the 2 inches make much of a difference?

You'll have to try before you buy and you'll have to mic it while playing live (which is not a bad thing).

I have a 1X10 Peavey Classic 20 and it is very low output. It's challenging to gig with it but I did have some success.

Geoff (wahwah) plays huge gigs with a 1X10 Fender.

Re: Older Peaveys on Craigslist

To be blunt - old SS and most older tube Peaveys sound like pieces of crap. There were some exceptions, but your money would be much better spent on a used modern amp.

Find a Vox Valvetronix, L6, or newer Peavey Transtube. They sound better, have more features, and the components are newer. Back in the day, when all we had were junky solid state practice amps, we would have LOVED the kinds of amps that are out right now.

Two great out of production Peavey amps are the Prowler and the Ultra 112. If you can find a deal on one of those jump on it.

Re: Older Peaveys on Craigslist

+1 on the Ultra 112, I scored one on ebay a couple months ago for a whopping $142 ! 60 watts of all tube goodness, its a beast , american made tube amp that blows the socks off of most anything I have heard under $1200

Re: Older Peaveys on Craigslist

I've been reading all the old threads about Valvetronix, Transtube, other old peaveys... there are just so many out there, and its hard to try out lesser known older amps.

What's funny, is that I used to jam on a Transtube when I was learning, and how no idea how cool those amps are.

So the Ultra is a good one? The Bandit seems to be good as well.
