OLP .vs. Squier

[EVH-in-training]

I'm trying to fighure out witch guitar to get an OLP MM1 w/vintage trem or a Squier Affinity Fat Strat?If i get the strat i'll probabloy grab a few spay cans and make me own franky.But im leaning twoards the olp cuz it looks almost like the wolfgang.i'm planning to add a custom 5 to either one . So help me settle this please!

i have an affinty strat, its ok. its got a thin neck though, i think 1 and 5/8 at the nut, not too sure. it is a decent guitar to mess around with, and change pickups in. not too sure about the olp, never played one. hope this helps:fing2:

I've played Squiers where I thought, "Man, this is a lot of guitar for the money." Every OLP has felt like it was worth exactly what it cost.

i think resale would be better on the squier, its more recognised..

saying that, if you're frankensteining it anyway, it's up to you :burnout:

i'd personally go for the squier.. it's much easier to get hold of strat parts that MM parts, if you're gonna mod it

I played a $200 Olp at Guitar Center and for the money it was a really good guitar. I thought the pickups were pretty good too but that could have been the amp.

There's nothing wrong with Squiers... everything that'sbad can be easily swapped out (i.e. pickups, electronics).
As a matter of fact, the overall quality of the non wood parts isn't quite that bad... my tuners hold the tuning quite well and are still in after playing, which quite surprised me... the wood is imo of really good quality... at least on my baby.

Squiers amaze me, probably 9/10 of them.

I've played maybe 4 olp MMs. all of them sucked.

I can't stand the necks, but I've never noticed any of the other parts to annoying. Even the pickups are great for the price, the only reason I refuse to touch them is the neck, its not made for me. Maybe its nice for others.

I probably wouldn't look twice at many Squiers, but I have to admit, THIS one is the best Squier I've handled! It's a recreation of the Fender Esprit, which eventually became Fender's Robben Ford model. Yesterday, I strummed a black one with satin nickel hardware. Great guitars for the money...

I played a couple of those at a local shop, before noticing the name on the headstock. Needless to say, I did a doubletake when I finally did notice.

i've not had any experience with the HSS Affinity Squier; the SSS version i used to own let me down...

however, i am really fond of the satin-finished HSS pictured below, it has a very applaudable lower midrange:
