On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

Yes, you heard me right :smack:

- Backrouted floyd (good quality one-high end Ibanez, OFR or Schaller only really)
- Neck that isn't extremely skinny (this seems to be the hardest part..)
- 22 or 24 frets no real preference.
- Preferably strat shaped but would consider others
- H/H or H/S/H setup, pickup brand not a problem as I'll probably swap them
- Willing to spend up to £800, but would prefer to keep it around £500 if possible
- Big frets
- Maple neck, not arsed whether it's rosewood/maple/ebony board.
- Must be comfortable to play seated, and hang nicely on a strap (no headstock divers!)
- S/H or new not an issue

Any recommendations?

Basically, my biggest problem is the bloody neck!

I have an RG body that needs a new neck and I wanted to change the trem on it to an OFR, but by the time that's done that's already gonna be £400 ish, so I may as well look at other axes too.

Cheers in advance for any help!

Re: On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

i would try to get a used DK1, gret deals can be found sometimes, even on SL2's

look on ebay for used Charvel models too.
what you're tryıng to find is your basic 80's guitar, but i think the neck is going to be a slight problem =/

good luck

Re: On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

do they have shecters accros the pond???
if so : schecter c-1 FR(see link in sig for info)

Re: On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

I have a line on a used SL2H in that range (at least I think that´s what he wants). A bro of mine that´s even in the UK IIRC... With a bit of luck it would be local to you..

Soloist profile is similar to a rhoads, kind of a half breed between a thinner neck like the jackson speed (which is also thicker than an ibanez) and a 59 Paul...

man that schechter looks classy. very nice

Re: On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

Schecter C-1 FR has an OFR and it's actually a very nice guitar for the price. What you described to a T though is a G&L invader. OFR, nice neck, strat shape, really damn nice guitars. Check ebay, every once in a while you can find a good deal.

Re: On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

Cheers guys.

I'm not looking to buy right this minute, I won't have the cash together until the end of summer.

The reason I'm asking is so that I can track them down and try them out, so I can have a definite goal to work towards.. it'll be the only thing getting me through the job I have lined up for the next few weeks :laugh2:

Oh yeah Zerb, I dunno if I mentioned it but I finally got to play a US Jacko a while back - it was a custom model based on the Phil Collen axe (didn't have a floyd or the sustainer pup).. I've played cheaper Jacksons and not got on with the necks but that neck was unbelievable. Very comfortable indeed! Haven't played a US soloist yet though.

I found a place that stocks G&L today actually, but they didn't have any floyd models. Checking their online catalogue seems to suggest they don't stock them either - do'h.

Only problem with that axe is it has a neck single coil, I'd much rather have a humbucker in the neck on this axe

They make them dual humbucker too. This one just didn't.

Re: On the lookout for an axe with a backrouted floyd

You could also look for an older Ibanez PGM, the early ones had Edge Trems and a neck similar to the Jem, which is similar to the Wizard II. Or perhaps an older John Petrucci, they have the Ultra Neck which is also not as thin as the Wizard.

Used DK-1, or the SL2H Zerb has a line on ;)
