One amp only

Re: One amp only

As of right now, since I've got no amps that I really want, my Falcon would do just fine. I could be happy the rest of my life with just it, it's that good. It might not be great for someone else, but it gets me the sound I want right now.

Maybe in 5 years I'll want something else, but right now, I truly and honestly need nor want anything else or better. I've played Twin Reverbs from the 60's, and BF Super Reverbs and all those Fenders, and I like my little guy more. Call me an idiot, but I reckon if anybody played through it and cranked it up, they'd love it too (although most people wouldn't be content with just this - it can't come close to metal territory).

But a good overdrive (or even a good distortion) pedal through this cranked, with a good guitar and good pickups? That's just heaven for me right now. And I use the OD pedal maybe 5% of the time.

But again, I'm sure a Bogner Ecstasy would change all that, I'm not discounting that fact. I'm just going off my own experience, and there is absolutely nothing I would change about this amp right now, which is not something I can say about anything else (girlfriend, guitars, etc.).

Re: One amp only

Fender Bandmaster.

The clean tones are amazing. i'd use it for smaller gigs and miced for bigger gigs.

Re: One amp only

My choice.

Re: One amp only

for myself i think if i can get my hands on the new 5150III half stack i'd be in heaven... of course it does not do everything i play... but i'd make it work the best i could.....

Re: One amp only

im thinking a mid size tweed fender with reverb, low power switch and boost would do almost everything that i need

Re: One amp only

Pro Reverb w/Master Volume.

I don't like pristine cleans, but turning the guitar down makes it clean up nicely, and the voice for lead is divine...push is with a pedal and it'll breath fire. Not too loud to run it a bit inside, and not to quiet to put on a festival stage outdoors.

Re: One amp only

I'll settle for the 1980 Marshall 2104 combo I just acquired last week. It's my sound. This isn't the honeymoon period. I had one in the early 80s, and like a fool I let her get away. This is the second honeymoon. :naughty:

Re: One amp only

Well, that was an exceptional year for Marshalls Simon.

Mine would also be a 1980 Marshall. The JMP 2204. In red tolex, natch.

Re: One amp only

I think that I would currently choose the Marshall Vintage Modern 50w 2x12 combo, and use it everywhere I could with my pedals and Legacy...

Re: One amp only

My dream amp would have:

the controlled "angel feedback" of the Bogner Ecstacy I had for 10 years, which gave me no problems but blew up 4 times for the guy who got it from me

blooming major 3rd power chords like the VHT Pittbull Ultra Super-Duper I played a little while ago

complex gain structuring like the VHT Deliverance that set me free for the few minutes I played through it

My dream amp would:

make an excellent espresso for me when I get up in the morning

be capable of bone-rattling single notes like I understand the Diezels provide; never saw one, don't think they actually exist

have a bunch of silver women all over it like my XXX

have a blue power light like my XXX

have a bunch of real women draped all over it

be capable of all those vintage tones you guys get, about which I know nothing, depending simply on where I have my guitar's volume/timbre knob

able to emulate a Crate or a Gorilla depending on my pick attack

allow me creamy leads when doing sweeps on the 33rd fret with the treble on 15 and the mids and bass on -1

have the boldness of 6L6s

have the gooch of EL34s

have great legs

never give shrill feedback, ever

never make the power tubes glow purple

let me pedal or drone while I fiddled with other notes, all heard clearly

let me get that Back in Black rhythm sound

help me play better

My dream amp would have exactly one big knob that looks like this :D, labeled, "Rule"

one knob? yes, so I can get on with it. Tired of knobs and tubes and designs. Just want to get really good, just want to play.

oh, and it would have that tinkling glass sound when you turn it off
