One more question for now(I hope). This one is about finishing.

Depending on how thin it is, you should be able to bend a veneer pretty easily but - just like anything else - there's a learning curve.

Veneering wood is a Pain in the rear. You are better off using a cap.

The best guitar veneers are applied using a vacuum bag and pump. Those are ridiculous pieces of wood working gear to have to buy... they aren't an arm and a leg but not stupid cheap either.

Plus, veneers don't add any value to a guitar... they are usually a sign of cheapness and budget cutting.

A good cap will just glue and clamp like any other piece of wood and will actually add to the value of your build. A good cap is easy to route for binding and faux binding on a decent cap looks fantastic IMHO.

Just forget the veneer... trust me, I wouldn't steer you wrong.

I'll look into it!

Where would they come from?

You can buy maple caps or any cap for that matter on eBay. It's easier than dealing with someplace like LMI.

try paper laminates first

try the comics section of the Sunday paper

real thin
easy to work
same techniques
dont waste good veneer on practice

sand off and repeat

wet it good and roll it on with a spongy roller

try Ibanez RG's
they have fairly sharp corners

that Aussie dude whom we cannot name

uses T-shirts and tons of clear
