Re: One of the best guitars you'll own...and only $199
I've got one, a Wilshire LTD in appealing dark red.
More fun than an SG?. For me, yes but, because neck/fretboard are different.
Neck profile is closer to '50s one (bate), fretboard is wider than in any Gibson's guitar. I would say closer to Brian May's Red or even Ibanez JEM7V.
To play on lower frets is easier than in a Flying V or SG, indeed.
I had no issues, as in the case of our mate.
I have to say that I was impressed about the overall work and look for a guitar of such a price.
Weak parts are as ever: electronics and hardware but, woodwork and finishing was damn good for that price and way better than most of chinesse imitation sub-products at same price.
Lately, Epiphone seems to had took some attention to their pickups, because the last two Epi's I bought (Korina Flying V and Wilshire LTD) came with a set of pickups (designed in USA?) that sound really good but, with a very low output. Without the help of a booster or buffer, they can sound a bit thin and poor but, once you put some of those pedals, the sound is pretty good.
For sure, any good set of SDs improves the sound, as ever.
Fretboard is a pleasure to walk on and, because of its wideness, I prefer it to typical Gibson's.
Overall, I think is a bargain for its price and there is a lot of room for improvements.
