One stop shop for EVH sound?

Sounds pretty good to me (not that I'm any sort of expert), unless I'm much mistaken though, this seems to trump any amount of pickup swaps.

I agree. Moreover, if you used the right combination of amp and guitar for the particular period of Eddie's tone, it would get you even closer, but this seems to get you 90-95% there. With the EBMM and Laney the tone is a bit more refined and less brash than on the early records (more like early 90s EVH) but it certainly does the job.

Pete Thorn just did a video for The 1 over the hols. Very impressive! Would love to try one in person.

Great vid, and great tone...

But the thing is, couldn't these guys (Pete Thorn in particular) sound even them crappy pedals super cool?

Anyways, I am with you on the imperative obligation to try one in person!

B :)

Re: One stop shop for EVH sound?

least these sound like a amp and the bogner xtc and the 5150III sound dam close to each other

Re: One stop shop for EVH sound?

I honestly HATE EVH but if you want that high gain Marshall sound I'd check out the MI Audio Super Crunch box... it has that sound essentially.

Re: One stop shop for EVH sound?

Why do you hate EVH? :(

Personally, I'd be wary of any single pedal claiming to be the complete EVH sound. As others have said, there's much more to the signal path than just a pedal. And as dr. barlo said, guys like Pete Thorn could make almost anything sound good, especially in the vein of EVH - have you guys seen Pete's video on how to play Eruption? He has spent SO much time dissecting the nuance of how to be EVH, and imo that's where a lot of that tone will come from. Take any decent hotrodded Marshall style pedal, and add a player who KNOWS the EVH style, and the demo will sound godly... And that's how hype is born :D

Re: One stop shop for EVH sound?

yeah he is no doubt talented I just am not a fan of shredding and tapping stuff.

I too like his early tone!

Re: One stop shop for EVH sound?

i've tried the pinnacle, the plextortion, the crunch box, the ecstasy red, the 78 badass, the reezafratzitz, and every other evh styled pedal i could find recently and the mad professor 1 really was the best one for me. it doesnt sound like an old marshall, it sounds like eddie's recorded sound. i tried it with a phase 90 and a custom custom equipped strat and i was sold. it's probably the least versatile pedal i own, but thats not why i bought it.

Re: One stop shop for EVH sound?

Dont know which pedal is the best for this but this pedal sounded good in this demo

Next person who says tone is in the fingers get his cut off, right after the guy who plays by "feel."
