I had both of these pedals for a few years. Used them for boosting my gain channel. I sold/traded the OD-3 earlier this year though.
The biggest difference to me was that the SD-1 was thinner sounding and took some lowend out of your tone. Otherwise, the pedals tone and character is nice.
The OD-3 is thicker, and rounder sounding. No lowend loss, it actually would add some. It's tone and character is much more vintage sounding to me. Like a pushed vintage tube amp. But as a result it was a little too loose and undefined compared to the SD-1 for boosting.
