Opinions on Fender Super Champ X2

Hey Guys

I currently have a Vox AC15C1 with a 30 watt Pre-Rola AlNiCo Weber Blue Dog speaker and an Orange Tiny Terror 1x10" combo with PPC112 extension cabinet with Weber Legacy Speakers (30 watt, 30 oz ceramic magnets, pre-rola treatment 75 hz cone on 10" and 55 hz cone on 12").

I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on a Fender Super Champ X2 combo in one of the limited edition (blonde/oxblood or surf green/wheat) colors.

I'd likely build a 1x12" matching extension cabinet and use a 10" 16 ohm speaker in the combo and a 12" 16 ohm speaker in the ext cab wiring them to a total load of 8 ohms.

I'm interested in using the Super Champ as a practice amp, recording amp, and a cleanish amp for live settings (miked up).

My other consideration is to just build a Fender amp circuit and a custom 10"/12" combo cab. I like blending the 10" and 12" speakers.

I'm mainly interested in the Fendery amp settings as I have the Orange and Vox and they cover pretty much all my british amp needs short of having a vintage Hiwatt stack loaded with Fanes lol.

I'd like to play one. They look like the perfect size for practice. If you play one let me know what you think.

Re: Opinions on Fender Super Champ X2

well I have played with them and I used to own a Mustang practice amp and really liked it.

But I'm just curious to hear opinions from people that own them and use them frequently. It's one thing trying out an amp in a showroom and playing one in the comfort of your home, in a studio, or on a stage.

I'm also curious to hear from people that have swapped tubes and speakers in this amp.

At such a low price I'll probably just pull the trigger on it. I'm sure being all tube it's probably going to make me happier than the Mustang did, which imho was a great practice amp.

Re: Opinions on Fender Super Champ X2

I thought the super champs were hybrids... not all tube. I guess I could be wrong though.

Channel 1 is an all tube path (pre and power tubes). Channel 2 with the "models" is hybrid. The only thing I'm still not quite clear on is that the amp comes with only one preamp tube. I read somewhere that it splits it's duties as both a preamp tube an PI tube.

There is no tube preamp in the SCX2...the first channel goes through the DSP engine on what used to be voice 4 on the XD. It's a model (called Blackface Clean) as well. There is no pure tube signal path in that amp whatsoever.

The only 12ax7 in the amp is part of the power amp, as it's the phase inverter tube. All that said, you DO still get to crank up a full tube power amp.

sorry for the misinformation as the tubes are only the power section. I've heard mixed reviews on these amps. I think I'll probably just pull the trigger though since for the most part people seem to be liking the amps.

and I think running the dual speaker setup (a 12" matching extension cab along with the 10" internal speaker) will probably give me Fender heaven on a budget.
