Re: Opinions on Schecter?

They're great guitars considering what you pay for them, or at least used to pay for them. I don't know how much they cost anymore. I own three, and I think they're great guitars for what they cost me. They're budget guitars, but they're really good budget guitars.

I have an Omen Extreme 6 that has been a really good guitar. It's my back up to my Les Paul. I do play it a lot at home. It's a very nice playing and sounding guitar.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the current Schecters made in the same factory as LTD's?

I've heard this a few times as well. sure seems like it.
i know both have run STBC into the ground, and the oyster shell trim is gawdawful.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I have a Schecter Blackjack ATX C1 and it's awesome. It plays great and sounds killer. It doesn't have the overdone abalone inlay work like some other models have.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I think I may be pretty much sold on the Schecters just unsure of what exact model yet.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

The C-1 is the brand's flagship although I am also very partial to their first original body design, the Avenger.

Their no.1 line is the Hellraiser, which comes to prove that although a lot complain about the abalone, most vote with their wallets for, rather than against.

I prefer the Blackjack ATX (posted above) and the latest Blackjack SLS series, mostly for the Ebony, the Duncans and the more to my taste aesthetics.
More than that though, I REALLY like those two special editions I posted above.
The C-1 for the passives and the 3-way switch, the Avenger, well, because it's the first non-signature high-end avenger with a floyd, plus it comes in blue!!!

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I have been looking over their instruments and checked a couple new ones at the local shop and I must say, they look like very high end instruments. I am going back this week to play one. Is it my imagination or are they underrated among players?

I haven't decided which model to go with but the Black jack, hellraiser, Damien or Omen similar model look very nice with a FR of course.

Do we have any owners around here and if so what is your general opinion of the quality of the instruments?

I have a Schecter Tempest Special. When I bought it the pickups had been removed, but I would have probably changed them anyway. You are right that they are a high quality built guitar. Mine has Grover tuning machines, Tonepro bridge & tail piece(hard tail like a Les Paul) and it has a really nice piece of rosewood for the fingerbaord. The Tempest models were built to mirror Les Pauls. They Had a Special, with P90's a Standard with nickle buckers and I believe they had a Custom with all gold hardware. I bought mine as a slide guitar and put a set of Duncan Antiquity P90's in her. She sounded so good I couldn't just leave it as a slide guitar so I use it for any P90 stuff that I do.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I have a Schecter C-7 Hellraiser (7 string, 26.5 inch scale)
I really dig the neck profile and I think the 14 inch fretboard radius is really nice.
Highly playable guitar.

I feel it's a bit lacking in resonance compared to my Ibanez 7 strings and overall it doesn't feel as well constructed (feels maybe a little 'plastic-y' if that makes any sense), but then again I'm comparing a South Korean axe to Japanese made axes here, so given that the Schecter is still not bad.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I never had the chance to play any of them. I always see them for sale on my local Craig's List all of the time though, so that makes me wonder just how good they really are.

They are a popular guitar center item that looks flashy. That's why the used market is flooded with them.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

Given that and the recent low economy, I find the buy and sell forums full of guitars these days. Some people need money more I guess.

From what I have seen, they look like very solid instruments. Next up, trying the models I can find locally and deciding which I want to go with. They have a few nice models that I would like to have.:)

they look similar from the front, but they feel totally different. the horizons are thinner and lighter normally. the schecters have fat bodies and necks.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I am looking for a Floyd Rose model, not a hard tail type. I am not a big whammy player but I like to know it is there if I need to reach for it.
I have not seen any LTD's locally, we only have a couple small shops here......3 actually and they always seem to have the same guitars like nobody ever buys them.
The 3rd just opened a few months ago. I am really not a big fan of buying a guitar before I play it but I am quite limited on what I can find locally without having it specially ordered.

where are you located?

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I've passed a few Schecters through my hands. I don't currently own one, but most have managed to impress me a great deal.

I had a Schecter C-1 Hellraiser with a Floyd that was just killer. Don't know what it was about that guitar, but I sold it when I was moving and kinda wish I had it back.

The biggest tear drop for me recently was selling my Japanese Schecter SD-II-24 in hot pink! Few guitars in the universe play as nice as that guitar did! Shame... ended up selling it right back to a guy in Japan!

Small city in Ontario Canada, under 100,000 people. We did have a few more shops years back but they have been slowly dissapearing. A new one just opened up though. Add in those 3 and local pawn shops and there is a bit of a selection but only a couple schecters. I may just have to order the new ax special. I really like the Crimson red pain jobs, I seen another red one also that was a bit different but I can't seem to find the paint job again. It looks really amazing.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I couldn't buy a Damien. There was kid from high school named Damien who kept hitting on my girlfriend right in front of me. I punched his lights out after graduation.

The Blackjacks are pretty decent guitars. IMHO, the Schecter ATX Blackjack C-7 is the best seven string on the market. It has everything one needs to shred it modern style.

My name is Damian :I It's spelled with a A at the end not an E though lol. But still, don't punch me in the face.

I know a few people that have a Schecter. The other guitarist in my band has one. They're pretty nice but I could never really get too into them for some reason.

Re: Opinions on Schecter?

I think I am pretty much sold on the Schecter. Just not quite sure what exact model as of yet. More research to be done. I appreciate the opinions and information as I have never played one, not yet anyway but I have, well "lusted" after the ones I have seen, they have always caught my eye before I looked at the headstock and seen the name.
