I lovingly refer to them as the Honda or Toyota or maybe most accurately Hyundai of the guitar market.

Attractive, affordable, reliable and completely usable...but you sound funny if you brag about owning one.

I am not really one to brag about anything but why would you sound funny bragging about owning a guitar that is "Attractive, affordable, reliable and completely usable"?

Is it better to brag about owning a guitar that is unattractive, overpriced, unreliable and not usable, provided it has different name on it?

A great guitar is a great guitar regardless of the name on the headstock.

Plus, I don't know the deal over at the US but here, saying you own a Toyota or a Honda is nothing to feel funny about, not to mention that it has been forever since you could call them especially affordable, Hundais still are but they just feel so cheap, which Schecters don't.

I've wanted a Schecter for nearly 10 years now and everytime I am ready to pull the trigger there's some local issue or another like a late shipment, shortage of the specific model that I want etc...

Still want one, one day...

I played one of these last winter (?) for about an hour, it was a great guitar, even with the duncan designed pups still in it.

Just to help you understand a little more how their different series are classed, I made this little description for you :

High-End Schecter Series 700$-1000$ : Custom series, Blackjack SLS-ATX/Hellraiser Extreme-Standard (Set neck, SD/EMG pickups, Coil-Tap, quality bridges, locking tuners)

Mid level Schecter series 500$-700$ : Standard series (set-neck), Hellraiser Special (Set-neck), Damien-Elite (Bolt-On) (Standard schecter tuners, SD/EMG pickups, quality bridges)

Entry level Schecter series 300$-500$ : Omen, Demon (non-american pickups, cheaper bridges, bolt-on, non-locking tuners)

and I would not sincerly consider an SGR if you are looking for a serious guitar...

Like Empty Pocket wrote earlier, getting yourself a Schecter is getting yourself a rock solid tool for playing guitar. To me, I would not that much consider buying Omen or Demon, when you can reach nice mid level series that are awesome. Just figure out what are the guitar specs you are looking for and there will surely be a Schecter Guitar for your needs. :friday:

i had one of the C1s from musicians friend from like 2008 ($499) and it had Duncans and Tonepros and was a GREAT axe! It was solid and well made and played and sounded great. The neck was alittle fatter than I prefer so I moved it on, but I could have adapted and learned to love that axe.

I think this is the model my friend has, it has some nice weight to it, the kind of weight that reassures you it's a solid axe. it sounds great, the playability is very adjustable and it has a coil tap push pull pot.

Speaking exclusively about the current production line Schecters (i.e. not the USA made stuff from the 70's and 80's, which was quite literally made by a different company): I'm not a fan. They seem nice "on paper", but every single one I've picked up has looked, felt, and sounded like a budget guitar.

Speaking of the older USA made stuff, some of the best guitars I've ever held in my hands were Schecters. Those were really special. I had a chance to buy a Schecter strat a few years ago but the deal fell through. Total bummer, as I've not seen a lefty one on the used market since.

FWIW, the Strat style model I had in the mid 80s was a great guitar. It seemed to be the HSS Strat version of the Schecter Tele that Daltrey played in the Eminence Front vid.

I have a Corsair (335 style with a Bigsby) and a Hollywood Classic (neck-through Super Strat). They're both really nice guitars that have seen a lot of gigs.

I talk with the guys at the local shop that sells Schecter and asked is he could order me in whatever model I wanted and he said it would be no problem. He also told me he would price match. I never asked about matching shops onthe net but I thought the price match was a great touch.
Now, just to decide what model I want...which might be the hardes part.
The blackjack and hellraisers might be the way to go...I am interested in their high end models.

I have a schecter c1 ea semzi hollow. It is the older, red colored version with two jacks: one for the electric and one for the acoustic. I really like it but It needs new pickups. The Duncan design ones are not good. I'll probably put in a Seth set eventually.

If you like the chubbier necks pretty much any of the high-end ones mentioned so far.
If you're like me and prefer slimmer necks, the BlackJack SLS line is for you. They have them in red but I so much prefer them in blue

Also, that ATX posted above, awesome, but the color is now discontinued, they have a sunburst instead.

I couldn't buy a Damien. There was kid from high school named Damien who kept hitting on my girlfriend right in front of me. I punched his lights out after graduation.

Yeah, I really like the black jack model. Not sure, which one as they have many nice guitars. I only really like the body shape of the blackjacks..etc. Not really into the other models.
As for colors, I am more into the reds and blacks..a couple of the blues looked cool also.

Not sure if I want to go with actives or passives. There is also model with the sustainiac built in.

I have guitars with both Blackouts and EMGs. I like both of them. They each have their good points and are good for getting certain tones. Overall I have to say I like the Blackouts better. Like Duncan says, they have more tone. Basiclly they have the good points of active pickups while at the same time having a tone that sounds closer to a passive pickup.
