Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I'm thinking of either the Roland Cube 15 or the MicroCube as a practice amp....I'm looking for opinions on which of the two would make a better practice amp.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I prefer the microcube. Some guys might not like how one effect turns into another, but I love it. The models sound very nice, AND.....you can slap in some batteries and go!

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I've got a cube 60 Im selling, its got a volume knob.

And it's going to have far better tone with its 12inch speaker.

Its not to loud for practice, its just got headroom.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

The microcube rocks because you can take it anywhere and I think the only difference between the two, besides the wattage, is the speaker size.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I've got a microcube (and a 60, but you're not asking about that). I love it. With all the options that it's got that the 15 doesn't, I don't know why anyone would get the 15. It's not like the extra volume you get from the 15 is loud enough to do anything with, while the micro is still plenty loud enough to annoy the parents with.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

Yes the microcube will amaze you at how it sounds for such a little bugger. I use it for practicing and rarely turn it up past a quarter of the way. Plus its cheap and it weighs about nothing so its extremely portable.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

For a pure practice amp, I'd probably go with the Cube 15 'cause it can more easily swtich from clean to OD sounds.

My MicroCube is the better grab and go anywhere amp, whether it's to the back deck or off on a camping trip.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

What do people think of Cube 30s here? I was considering getting one.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I have a cube 30, it gets a strong "thumbs up" but like anything, it's not perfect.

The reverb is excellent, throws off a great sounding hall type reverb. I cant stand any of the other "effects", but that is not because of rolands take on it, I just dont like or use that stuff, but if you like that it sounds quality.

Out of the seven or so amp models, some hit the mark & some dont.

The mesa/boogie rectifier "r-fier" sounds absolutely incredible, if you crank this sucker it will literally bring down your house, it sounds full and gets loud as ****. This is by far the best amp model in my opinion.

The "metal stack" which is peavey, also is a winner. "Full stack", marshall, sounds a bit muddy and not as crisp as it should. "Tweed" is really borderline, it sounds too "solid stateish" to me, not authentic sounding. "Brit combo" vox, does a decent job, "Blackface" fender clean, can be kind of ear piercing, not great. "Acoustic" interesting but I'm not an acoustic kind of guy!

It has a seperate clean channel which is excellent, you can mix it with reverb or the other effects which is nice, it sounds great if you like clean.

I pretty much dial in the rfier and leave it there! Also, it is built like an absolute brick ****house, just a solid piece of equipment, probably why it's a bit more expensive than others in its category.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I'm another MicroCube user. I never get complaints from the family when practicing (could be I stopped singing along). And as Aleclee said it runs off 6 AA batteries so you can take it and play outdoors (park, campground, backyard). It sounds good for such a little amp also.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

Thanks for the opinions guys. I picked one up this afternoon.

Oddly enough, the only model I don't like is the R-fier.....

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

^the R-fier on the micro sounds much, much different than on the 30 and 60. Same with the Classic Stack actually, but that's better on the micro.

Re: Opinions on the Roland MicroCube and Cube 15....

I'm leaning toward getting a Cube 15. It's got a little more power. But the MicroCube is really cool. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
