Opinions on this bass

Re: Opinions on this bass

Welcome to the forum.

Valuation on that bass is a little tricky. SD/Basslines Quarter Pound P/J pickups and Badass II bridge are upgrades. The cosmetic alterations are a matter of subjective taste. Most potential buyers would use them to knock the price down.

Welcome to the forums, couldn't have said it better!

Re: Opinions on this bass

In other words, you would be looking to buy an unmolested MIM Jazz Bass then, maybe, add the bridge and pickup upgrades to suit your tastes.

That's why I bought a MIM bass from my band teacher last year for $20. As I was typing out that comment, I realized how much I would change. That neck would firewood, the pickguard shot at, and the p bass pup kicked in the side with a pair of steel toe boots.

As stated above, the seller is not gonna get $300 for it. Especially not when you can buy a brand new Squire VM for that price. He'll get maybe $100 at most.

Re: Opinions on this bass

It's got some good upgrades but the burnt headstock... well let's just say I wouldn't buy it and I'm pretty open minded when it comes to wear and tear.

Re: Opinions on this bass

IMO, the headstock is not burnt. Somebody painted on the flames THEN realised that the Fender logo needed to be visible and scraped some of the paint off again - rather badly.

Re: Opinions on this bass

Someone has offered me a soundgear sr305 5 string fretless. In real good condition. Should I take it?

Are you interested in fretless styles? Would you be comfortable with the string spacing? If the answer to both of these questions is yes, do the swap. If the answer to either question is no, do the swap anyway. The unmolested 'nez should be easier to sell on.

I don't play. Purely doing this for economic benefit. I am trying to do the Barter King thing and trade up to something big eventually. If the Ibanez would be easier to move than I should probably do it. What is their value. New ones looked to be around $400.
