I'm Looking to get myself a New telecaster. Not to replace my current one, But just as a second. Seeing as My tele seems to get more play than any of my other guitars do, I figured another tele is a good idea. Haha.

Earlyer today I tried out a MIM Nashville tele. And I really dug it alot. It had a rosewood neck (which I prefer), And an ash Body (which I prefer, on the blonde finish model only though) And was fairly cheap. So I was wondering if anyone else has one of these, And what they're opinion of them is.

Also, If anyone has any suggestions on other tele's to try out I'de love to hear em. I'm really looking for a rosewood board neck, And preferably an Ash body (although alder is fine too). And I've only got about 700 to spend, So I'm hopeing to have enough left over to swap out pickups (if it needs it), and get a case too (if its not included).

So Any suggestions for a tele Under 700 (around 500 would be best)?

Also, whats the deal with the Highway 1 tele's? Are they good? Do they have the MIM pickups, or MIA pickups?

The MIM Tele's are real sweet. Can't go wrong with them IMO. I've played a few recently, not a Nashville though, and would have walked out the door with one had I been able to afford it.

love love love the hwy 1's...i like the thin finish and overall feel of the guitar...my newest tele g.a.s. is the new Fender Big Block!

The blonde Nashville Tele you described is only $519, so it seems the perfect fit. They're great guitars and it's probably worth the extra $150 over the Standard to get the Ash body and factory routing for a middle pickup. That'll leave you with $180 for pickups, which should be enough to allow for several options. I spent $120 on the three pickups for my Nashville-esque Tele, but I bought two of them used. The more expensive of SD's Tele offerings are around $70, so even if you bought all three new and at that price, you'd still only need $210.

The MiM Nashville is a good Tele. I prefer the American Series models, but you'll be hard pressed to find an ash body with rosewood finger board (they were made early on, but were dropped around 2002 AFAIK). I have one in white blonde with rosewood board, and it's very cool, so if you find a used one you'd likely be very pleased. I don't think any of the HWY1 models will get you both an ash body and rosewood board, but the MiM Muddy Waters Tele would be a great option. The Muddy is available in any color you want, as long as it's Candy Apple Red. However, a good Nashville in hand is worth grabbing tight if you like it and the price is right.

I love my MIM Nashville - go to the "Workshop" on my webpage (link in signature) for pics. It's a great guitar, and you don't have to feel guilty about modding it.

I like it so much, I bought a MIM neck off Xssive to put on my goldtop Schecter PT project guitar.

Thats a Nice tele. Hows the mini-bucker sound in the neck? I've seen this alot lately and been kinda wondering how it sounds.

Yeah, they still make the Ash/rosewood MIA tele's. But they're just way Past my price range. And I can't really justify spending 1k on a guitar that I'm gonna put new pickups into, and mod the hell out of ya know?
And I was checking into the muddy waters tele too. They seem quite nice, But I've got this thing against buying signiture guitars of any sort. No matter how much I love muddy (my dad raised me on muddy, and chicago blues), I just wouldn't feel right playing a guitar with someone else mods on it. And it would also feel like a sacrelige if I were to mod it.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. It seems like its worth the xtra 150 over the standard mim, Just for the ash body and rosewood neck (cause I prefer rosewood). And it would leave me with enough cash to swap pickups and what not. Although I'm totally unsure as to what pickups to get at this point. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, yer "silent" tele looks really nice. I actully like the weird discoloration of the finish. And the Moto pickgaurd looks pretty sweet too. One question though, Whats the advantage of the reversed control plate? I've seen this alot and never really understood why. Is it just to help do the tele Tone/wah swell things? or is there some other reason?

Last I looked, the Standards had rosewood fretboards too. Maybe that's changed in the last couple of years.

As for the control plate, I have a tendency to hit the switch while playing if it's in the normal position. Rather than actualy learn to be less sloppy in my playing, I flipped it around. Don't know if that's the reason others do it or not.

I love the mini-HB. I've never really gotten along with single coils in the neck position. I like neck humbuckers, but figured it would get kinda crowded in a Nashville. So, I listened to SD's clips, and selected the SM-1. Nice fat, humbucker sound (at least compared to a stock Tele) and it balances nicely with the other two pickups.
