I'm looking into possibly picking one of these up - anyone had experience with them? Thoughts, opinions, advice gratefully accepted

Re: opinions wanted on the G&L Tribute Rampage

I own one of the very first reissue's that were released last sept and I absolutley LOVE THE GUITAR! It's a 1 trick pony guitar but it does what I want it to do and thats all that matters. I would try it out if you can before you buy it b/c it's not a guitar that is for everybody, also change out the stock pickup in it b/c it suck's. The one that came stock in mine was so off the pole pieces didn't even line up under the strings. Here is a pic of my G&L Rampage and my other favorite guitar.

Since I've owned it I've replaced all the black chrome hardware with all matte black hardware including real Schaller tuners and a USA made Kahler tremolo. Did I mention that I love this guitar! LOL!!!

thanks. i imagine even after all the updates you ended up with a guitar that cost 1/2 of the US version :-)
i'm not sure that there is a G&L dealer near to me (iowa) - i'll have to check.

i really liked the one i had. i agree that it is a one trick guitar. but it does it very well. the stock pickup in mine was not bad actually. it sounded better than the gibby explorer i had.
the only reason i sold mine was after having to send it back to G&L and it being gone for 3 weeks/ it still would not stay in tune at all. i know the problem was the cheap kahler.
but i could not see spending the money to get a USA made one.

m-i-m, i almost messaged you to see if you still had it for sale...yea, i was wondering about the kahler.....

Re: opinions wanted on the G&L Tribute Rampage

I traded mine to a local store. They cannot get it to stay in tune either. I liked everything about the guitar but that. If usa kahlers were not so high I would have just upgraded it. I liked the 1 3/4 nut better than I thought I would. If you can play before you buy that would be best. If I was going for that style of guitar. I would just put one together.
That way you do not have to worry about changing the bridge and pickup. By the time you buy one then change the parts and have a good setup done. You will have around a grand in the rampage. Then if you get rid of it you would lose a good bit of money.

i agree that if what you want is a superstrat the easiest / best way to go is build one from parts...

Thanks! I needed this! I have lusted after one of these since they came out. But I cant justify it for any reason other than the coolness factor and they are supposed to play great.. But if they wont stay in tune...

Re: opinions wanted on the G&L Tribute Rampage

I bought the Jerry Cantrell Tribute and sent it back just days later, I wasn't happy with it. it was shipped in 2 cardboard boxes that offered little protection in my opinion. The US Rampage comes shipped in a Tolex locking case which is bubble-wrapped inside the shipping box.The color on the Tribute Rampage is supposed to be Ivory , but it's not, it's more Banana Pudding yellow. When I unpacked the Tribute the Alnico 5 pickup wasn't even fully attached to the guitar and falling out of the cavity. The US Rampage has a Seymour Duncan JB fully attached. The Kahler X-trem 4300 tremolo was not fully countersunk as is the Kahler Pro Series 2320 on the US Rampage and the tremolo cavity was routed too large. You could see bare wood around the outside of the tremolo system. I did not even play or set up the Tribute Rampage, I sent it back, called my dealer and ordered the US Cantrell Rampage... 3 months after the day I sent the Tribute back, I had the US Rampage in my hands... I will NEVER again buy a Tribute guitar, and putting US hardware on an Indonesian import is ridiculous it doesn't make the Tribute model any better... below is my USA Jerry Cantrell Rampage.
