Options for P90s and carved maple top

Something Cool
I will trade out one or two of my humbucker LPs. I really "need" (haha) a P90 guitar with a carved maple top. Never had one and I can't listen to The Wall's solo without wanting to try one. What are the options short of a R4 or R6?

I want mahogany or basswood body and a maple top. I don't care about bolt-on and whether the neck is maple or mahogany. On the balance of things I take a 6-point trem over a fixed bridge, especially over a metric TOM (shudder).

There are some PRSes. Music Man makes P90 Axis variants which I am drawn to but I can't deal with their narrow nut.

I always like vintage MIJ Les Pauls but I got a bit tired of chasing them given the common lack of serial numbers and other marking that allow you to figure out where the thing came from, and when.

Is there a Warmoth like outfit that will make carved maple tops?

Re: Options for P90s and carved maple top

I have a 2006 LE Gibson LP with P-90s. Kept the neck PU stock. Changed the bridge PU to a SD STKP90-3n. I suspect that the stock bridge PU with stronger magnets might have sufficed.

PRS guitars with P-90s are nice but they don't have the same "runaway train" sustain as a Lester.

I've seen production gold tops w/ P90s. Not sure if it was a special series or just a special order item but they were priced around what I'd expect a Les Paul Standard to go for. I'd ask around.

Alternatively, you could find a Deluxe and swap the mini hums for P90s.

Actually a beaten up Deluxe sounds like a great option.

Check out the Vox SDC-33 models. They aren't exactly P90's. There's no maple (ash or mahogany, depending on the color). There's no vibrato. But they are damned fine guitars for the money, and they do do the "Les Paul with P90's thing" quite well, as well as going beyond it.

If you like your current guitars, maybe an HB sized p-90 would work?

Wait until you try a P-100!!! That's six more, innit?
