Orange micro dark terror review

Hey guys!

Just the other day I went to my local guitar center to find a new amp I could keep in my apartment with me. After trying out a lot of little combos, I ended up walking out the door with this little monster!

So far I'm loving it! It's very responsive to the turn of a knob, and it doesn't sound nearly as fizzy as the older micro terror, at least to my ears. I think the black look of it looks a bit better sitting on top of a black cab too, but that's just personal. The amount of gain on tab is actually pretty impressive! I was wondering if I would need a dirt pedal or an overdrive in front of it to get to some heavy tones, but I was happy to find out I didn't need one!

Overall, I'm very happy with this little head, and for the price, I don't think I could've found anything better.

I'm thinking of getting one since my Tiny Terror, while sounds great, doesn't have an effects loop and I have to use a pedal to boost it for Metal

I'd be confident saying it can do metal. Just tweak the knobs a bit and you're good to go!

Anything 8 ohm or higher will work with it.

Will it take a 4 X 12 cabinet?

I have used a standard Micro Terror to push three 16ohm 4x12 cabs and one 16ohm 2x12 cab simultaneously and it sounded awesome. These Micro heads sound their best cranked up through at least one Orange 4x12 with Vintage 30s.

Although he could probably make anything sound good, this guy demonstrates how tweaking the guitar controls can generate a number of cool sounds out of a Micro Dark.

Congrats on the new amp!! I figured a 4x12 wouldnt be an issue.. Ive played a little smokey amp thru a 4x12. sounded surprisingly good

Since I recently moved house, I'm looking (in a half-assed kinda way) for a new practice amp, so I made a list of features that I'd like to have. This thing doesn't really have any of them but my GAS doesn't seem to care at all.

The headphone output works really well! Mine was somewhat noisy, but that could also be the headphones I was using, just a background buzz. It was perfect though!

I love all of these tiny new amps! I own a Randall Diavlo RD1H, Blackstar HT-1H, Hotone Purple Wind and Mojo Diamond, and one of the Micro Terrors is next on my list. They are perfect for recording, and you can build quite the little stable of classic and modern tones with them.

I would probably look for something else in a gigging situation, but these small amps do have there place in the studio. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes them.

It's my first post. Sorry to just butt in like that.

I'll add that a 5-10 band EQ, in the loop, can go miles for these little amps. It really makes a difference.
