Orange Rockerverb 50?

Orange Rockerverb 50?

I've been considering getting one of these, I played one for about an hour and loved the cleans. I've read that if you match it with the right cabinet you can pull off harder rock (think Foo Fighters, STP, etc.) Wondering what your experience is & if it is worth the money? Also, wondering how it is for lead playing. I've recently reviewed many amps, but didn't feel they were worth their price tags for one reason or another. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50?

i just played a show with a band and the guitar player used a 50. ran it through an orange 2x12. i'll tell you what man, if i had a need for a low to mid gain amp (ie foo fighters stp etc) i would LOVE it. it sounded great to me. you may have trouble pulling off really hard rock but i think you could probably do zep to the Foo's real easy with those.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50?

I do. But you're going to pay.

I'm a huge fan of 4x6V6S equipped amps, and own a Victoria Double Deluxe. In a similar price range there's some stunning 4x6V6S amps out there: Div13's FTR37, Swart's Super Space Tone 30, my Vic and an upcoming 65 amps model called the 'Memphis'.

The Rockerverb is the only 4x6V6 amp I've come across from a production-line manufacturer, and I was pretty impressed with the head and combo I've tried. Capable of great low-mid gain tones, with enough gain on tap for high gain, and a clean tone that vaguely reminded me of my Victoria. If they weren't basically 'boutique' priced down where I live I'd pick one up as a gig beater for sure.

ya that stuff overseas is expensive. at www.stonerrock.com a couple dudes had serious issues with quality control on that amp. I would probably get a jcm800 2204 before I buy the orange however.

Re: Orange Rockerverb 50?

I have the rocker 30 combo and it's killer. Any time someone asks about orange here you can count on me posting lol. I dunno the differences between the 50 and 30 other than the obvious and that the 50s have an fx loop and reverb. As far as the gain thing goes, if the rocker doesn't have enough gain for you, you're crazy and might wanna rethink your technique. I've never turned the gain past 3/4 and that's with the volume around 3, I'm sure I'd use less at higher volumes. I play a lot of metal stuff and some hardcore here and there, and the amp kills under those styles. It sounds great too for the low to mid gain stuff also. Despite being a really simple amp as far as features go, you can get a lot of different tones out of it. Changing guitars and pups yields great results, the amp responds very well to that as well as guitar volume/tone changes. It's also VERY easy to dial in, I had it sounding killer within a minute of trying it. If you do in fact need more gain, put a tubescreamer in front of it and be done with it. I've got a tubescreamer that I use for lead boosts and also when I need a little more gain for a certain passage and don't feel like screwing around with the guitar volume.

I say try the amp out and if you like it, buy it. If you get it and decide it's not your thing you can always resell it for a decent price, Orange amps go for pretty good money on the bay.

The key difference between the 30 and 50 is your 30 runs on a pair of EL34s and the rockerverb 50 runs a quad of 6V6S's.

So the 30 has more of a trad Orange/Marshall character going on, whereas the Rockerverb has a clean channel that is vaguely similar in tonality to a blackface fender deluxe reverb as well as an overdrive character that is very orange/marshall-like. Impressive versatility compared to your average brit amp.

note: by 'your average brit amp' I mean brit amps in general, not your particular amp, which isn't particularly average.
