Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

Let me start by saying I'm looking into the Orange Crush Pro which basically is a Rockerverb. Now with that being said, is the rockerverb/ crush good at punk rock? Also, pop punk and heavy metal?

Yep.

I would also try a cab with better quality speakers (like a PPC212) and the Micro Terror. That tiny little thing handles everything I throw at it. I've been using it with an Emperor 2x12 for my punk band and its great.

I have a Tiny Terror that really kicks ash. It has a great tone and is more than loud enough (for me anyway).

I haven't owned one (yet) but I do have: Rocker 30 and Thunderverb 50. I've owned a TH30 as well.

All of them would be fine and, from the clips I've heard, the RV would be great too.

As has already been said, a good cab is important.

The low-mid qualities of most oranges makes for a nice mix with either marshall or mesa in a punk-band context.

Let's start by saying the Orange Crush Pro is basically nothing like a Rockerverb.

What kind of punk are you playing?

In my experience the Rockerverb is a great sounding amp...but about 2x the price it should be. And it may have been a lemon, but my old band-mates just caused way too much trouble. As for the crush's, I haven't played the pro120 (60 I have though), but I haven't been impressed with any of the Crush line TBH, whether its the pro or not. However I do agree good speaker/ cab is important.

I think an old jcm900, 2000, single rec will suit you much better for the punk stuff, depending what type of course. Never liked the 900 for metal. And FWIW I'm an old 800 junkie.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

I don't wanna argue but the new crushes are based on the rockerverb... Plenty of info about this on the orange forum iirc.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

You should be able to do it with any Orange. Or any amp really. When my old band played with Ceremony, their guitarist was playing a Fender hot rod through a Mesa cab.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

Yeah, I have to laugh for a second when any guitar player wonders if an amp can do metal, punk, rock, blues, etc. You either know how to play it or you don't. The amp in general should be something that fits the genre, but I could rattle off a list of great punk bands and what their guitar amp was, and it's really nothing special. The guitar player either delivered or he didn't. In most cases, punk band gear was cheap crap, and that was the sound. The riffs and attitude is what made it happen.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

Whatever your amp is, just dime the gain. If you're looking for solid state they're all going to sound similar.

Quoted for truth. And because I used to think Gearjoneser was kind of a jerk until I realized he is pretty much right about everything.

Punk rock amp?

That would be any amp that works with all knobs dimed, and a dirt pedal in front of it.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

The best punk tone I ever heard was from this local band when I was in high school. The guy had a Mitchell amp which was a low rent rip off of a Mesa MKI that had 2 tubes pulled (not deliberately they went bad so he just yanked them) into an old Seymour duncan 4x12 cab that had 3 Celestion G12 70 watters and 1 Peavey scorpion speaker. That tone was so ugly it was glorious. What made it great was this dude got up there with his junk equipment (which was purchased from the pile of used gear from the back of the music store that was broken and deemed not worth it to repair) and he got up on stage with it and just thrashed his guts out

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

Asking about amps for punk isn't very punk.

But I guess going by that logic, 95% of guitar forums wouldn't exist because a 'real' blues player would play through a tin can with strings and be happy (or.. sad, as the case is in blues).

The Rockerverb is a great, classic amp. The whole deal with Orange is that they have a very woofy and chewy sound. It's a fairly unique gain sound, which will impart on any style of music you play with it. That makes Orange amps fairly love it or hate it amps, but if you listen to clips on youtube and think 'that sounds freaking awesome' then by all means go for it.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

The Rockerverb can do anything from blues to hard rock & metal. Punk would be no problem, in fact you might only have the gain knob up halfway-ish.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

The Rockerverb would be a badass punk amp. Do it!

You see? Naturally being right about everything holds with it the burden of being viewed as a jerk. :18:

which Orange crush pro? well I would go with tube no matter what and at least 50 tube watts and a closed back 212 cab.

you might have gotten a better response if you did not title the thread with an amp you are not wanting. also you might want to state what guitar, pedals you are using and bands you are most interested in.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

Punk is, quite relative... just like heavy or metal, lots of folks have different definitions of what it means and how it should sound and how much gain is gonna be needed. Wanna sound like Strung Out? A fender with all the knobs on 10 isn't gonna deliver, despite what has been stated above, however, if you want to sound like the clash that may work much better...

A good idea would be to tell us which bands fall in the territory of how you'd like to sound.

That being said, the newer crush amps seem to be quite versatile and I'm guessing it'd be fine for most, especially with pedals for different flavors.

Re: Orange Rockerverb for punk rock?

Most of you guys sound like you think all punk bands sound the same (in this case I'm even tempted to say you think they all sound like crap). While I understand that a lot of you guys' knowledge of punk and punk bands is limited to what little pop-punk makes it to the radio and articles in guitar player, there's more when it comes to punk bands and their guitar tones... there's a lot of variations with the different eras and sub-genres of punk... it's not limited to snotty kids with crappy guitars screaming in a mic.
