Orange Terror Stamp as a poweramp?

I'm using an HX Stomp. I initially was planing on getting a Duncan Powerstage 170 to power it up. However, I don't really *NEED* the 170W the Powerstage has since will be mostly playing at home. I do occasionally want to go out and jam with people, but that's not a priority. Honestly, I still kinda want the Powerstage, but I haven't come across a good deal on one.

I wonder if the Terror Stamp would fit my needs, though. It's easier to find a good deal on. I've heard it keeps up with a drummer too.

I'm not usually a fan of "the Orange sound", but it is a big plus that it can work as standalone amp compared to other pedal-sized poweramps like the Magnum 44. I used to have a Dark Terror that was alright, but I was never in love with. However, my priority would be plugging my HX Stomp in and getting some decent sounds through my 1x12 for home use.

What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea?

Thanks!

The power amp is not the forte of the Orange Stamp. Something like the magnum 44 for the occasional times you need one may make more sense given that you have a HX Stomp.

Why is it not its forte? Is it too colored?

The Orange stamp’s selling point IMHO is the tube preamp, loop and the form factor. The AB power amp is fine but standard, nothing to write home about :) I doubt it is colored, my assumption is that the Orange color comes from the preamp.

If you don’t want only a small power amp (which would be my recommendation with the HX Stomp) and you don’t like the Orange sound, the Quilter Microblock may work better for you. There’s quite a few other micro amps out there.

You mean to power a passive FRFR or a normal guitar cab with guitar speakers (Celestion for example)? In the end I guess it also depends on the speaker sensitivity, for example a Celestion V30 is loud so maybe 20 watts SS could be enough, just disable your IR. I have no experience with the Stamp amp so I cannot say how loud it can be as a power amp with a passive FRFR. Being that said, if you wanna use your HX with its IR then there are lots of options out there for PA powered speakers that I am sure are very portable.

Edit: Talking about powered PA speakers

Edit 2: There is also a small version of the ISP Stealth Power Amp, loud but not monster loud.

It is also designed to serve as a simple power amp if you run you're preamp into the return.

I am going on the road for a few days but when I get back my buddy wants to try mine out with his Headrush to see how it works

Why cut corners? Why not simply get the one you want which is the SD Power Stage....though I would get the 200 and not the 170 if it were me for the other offerings it has. Buy right, buy once. YMMV

You know what, you're right.

Now I'm undecided about the PS170, 200 or an Orange Pedal Baby.

Just get what you want, don't settle. It will be better overall and you will be happier. Settling sucks!
I think I would be fine with any of those, LOL. I guess it comes down to which I can find a good deal on. I just bought a used Krank cab that has a 120W speaker, so I'm not too worried about how much power I can pump into the little cab.

Went kinda left field, and I ordered a Mooer Tube Engine, LOL. Not really concerned about headroom at high volumes. Yes, I do want it to hang with a drummer eventually, but for now, I want it for home use. And tubes are more fun, LOL.
