Hi all,
I just auditioned Orange's new Tiny Terror class A EL84-driven amp through an Orange closed-back 2x12 cab using a PRS twin-humbucker guitar. I had great expectations after having read so many posts (here and elsewhere) describing this amp as the coolest little high-gain amp to have come out in a while. Well, all I can say is that it left me totally uninspired. It certainly has a lot of gain on tap, but to me the tone is very "fuzzy," which may be suitable for some styles, but not for mine. This was the case irrespective of the power setting (7 watts or 15 watts), and even when I cranked the volume control (in hopes of getting more power tube girth). On the plus side, it did clean up rather nicely when I backed off the volume control on the guitar.
A little later, I plugged into my little Fender Pro Junior going through an Avatar open-back 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion G12H-30s. Aaaahhh... That sounded much better to my ears, especially with a Boss SD-1 used to push the front end of the amp a bit. I guess this gave me more of a classic rock kind of tone compared to the Tiny Terror's sound.
So I guess this means that those of you who have tried a Pro Jr. and really like the tones it can offer may not be too thrilled with the Tiny Terror.
