Re: Orange Tiny Terror

What do you need people to say about it?

It's a cool little, all-tube amp that is RAD-AS-HECK! And It's Orange!

Just search, like, YouTube for some videoz.
There's one with a black guy playing it in all of its modes and showing off different settings.

Rad!

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

I've been eyeing one too. There are some good vids on youtube like said.

Has anyone compared it to a Vox AC15CC? Both are british 15 watters. I suppose the Orange is darker and more growly but any hands-on experience from anyone?

I was looking into them for my first amp.

Great sound samples over at the Orange forum - in fact i still want one.
I got the Vox AC15 instead.
The Vox is not better, but i bought it from my brother for $250.00 USD :D

AC15 in stereo w. a TT :firing:

. . . see above :beerchug:

Have not tested them side by side yet - no need to imo, as i want a TT to compliment the AC15 any ways !

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

I've spent all of about an hour & change with one... will post more when I have more time... gotta split at the moment...

But...

Short version is that I'm thinking about adding one myself. Debating though... Does it sound great? Yeah!

Is it super versatile? Mmmmm... sorta. Depends on what you call versatile.

Does it sound like "an Orange" amp?

Uhhhh...

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

I'm pretty familiar with the "old" Orange amps, specifically the OD120. Wished I owned one...

None of the new Orange amps I've tried quite capture the exact flavor of the older ones... and it's not I think a "reissue" vs. old thing like say, a Mashall 1959 or new tweed Bassman. The voicing is different... which to me is somewhat of a disappointment but the new amps can cover more ground, so its' a trade. Both the Rocker & AD series amps seem to be different from each other too but I really haven't spent enough time with 'em to come to a conclusion about anything...

So onto the Tiny Terror... and in context of a quick overdub session (solos & accent bits) with a hot schit guitarist... I also played on the amp for a short bit with a few nice guitars around...

The tone of the TT is somewhat "Orange" in flavor & has that throaty gain texture but it doesn't have the bottom end & midrange push of the bigger brothers. Actually, the overall voicing seems MUCH closer to a Vox then anything else! Some of that's probably the EL84's... gonna say a lot of it. Very chimy. Bright even?! Plenty of "slice" there for sure! The function of the 'tone' seems very similar to the "cut" on an AC30. It's not a midrange or contour control that changes the voice of the amp... so it's sort of a limited bag.

There's plenty of gain on tap, probably enough for most all but "modern" metal freaks of nature. It seems like it really excels at the more 'classic' rock tones that we all love... 70's through '90s. It's in there. Sorta. On the flipside... the clean tone recalls my topboost AC30 but there's VERY very little headroom. If you need clean tones for a bar gig, it's not gonna happen with the TT. But no doubt, the TT can crank and I can't imagine it NOT keeping up with the average drummer at a practice or small gig with 50-100 people.

It's a rocker. You'll probably either love it or hate it...

I rather dug it, but wonder if it'd be "too limited" and would be better off with an EL34 or 6V6 monster... or saving up & locating a choice late '70s Orange.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

It should be more aimed at AC/DC-type tones, at least that's what they said on Guitarist.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

Yeah, maybe. But it's got more gain then I typically think of Angus or Malcom using. More like gained out Rich Robinson (Black Crowes) or the first few VH records... not that it "nails" either but that's about the amount of gain on tap with a Lester. Still, a very chimy amp.

VH records ???

It seems to me that alot of guys think that AC/DC use alot of GAIN !
WHY IS THAT ???
Sure they have crunch, but to my non-pro-muso ears, it is more maxed out volume than anything else !
Did they not use JTM45's for the longest time ?
What are theu using now ?

Also, thet Black Crowes - did they use alot of gain ?
I got most of their albums, and two DVD's, and again, it does not sound like that much gain to me . . .

VH = Van Halen.

Agreed AC/DC is more krunch then gain...

Crowes ~ Rich uses a good spoonful of gain live & some of the records... check out Freak & Roll... or bits of Southern Harmony...

But again... none of those are "gained out" in the way I think of gain in a more modern context... hair rock or shred rock for example...

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

I checked out a TT, decent amp but I personally couldn't justify the price/performance ratio of the thing. $549 was the best price I could get and for me at least, when it comes to the little tube numbers for low volume/recording/home stuff like the Blackheart and VJ offer nearly as much with a pedal for 1/4th the price.

Depends on your applications I suppose, but if like me, your just looking for something that takes pedals well and that you can crank up for a bit of saturation at reasonable levels, why spend $550 when you can pick up a VJ etc for under $100

The TT certainly does look cooler though but then again, people do mistake it for a toaster lol

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

Sorry I didn't chime in on this sooner.

The TT is a powerhouse in a small box.....it's that simple. It has great gain and cleans up better than you'd expect. It's also a lot louder than I thought it was gonna be. I've got a 1x12 Orange cab I run it through....sounds fantastic. I also run it through a 4x12 and it's definitely rockin'!

However, Orange is going to be releasing a Tiny Terror Combo here very soon. So, you might hold off and see what that is like.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

^^ too late bro already scored a TT ,got it day before yesterday, cab is on the way, scheduled delivery for tomarrow.Let you guys know how it goes.

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

yeah, I been eye oranges too. Guitar one (world or whatever its called) tested the 50 what thunderverb and it sounded really good. Kinda marshally.

I wish I could test on of those and a tiny terror..

Let us know how tis liono9

Re: Orange Tiny Terror

Orange are going to release a combo version of the Tiny Terror with a single G12H-30 and a 5-watt combo version of the AD series.

A video was put on Youtube today with Rob Chapman demoing the amp at a german convention:

Sounds good to me!
