Hi. I'm getting a new amp soon but I'm not sure which one to get. I'm torn between the Orange crush pro cr60c and the blackstar ht-5210. I'm using a epi les paul at the moment.

I play hard and classic rock.

Please could someone help me out thanks.

Hi there! What do you want to use the amp for?
I'm an owner of Blackstar HT-40 amp and have played Orange amps before too.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

I didn't care much for either, the orange is good for solid state. The black star I think its the 12bh7 power tube I don't like, I also tried a H&K tubemiester 5 with that tube and I thought they both sounded kind of dull. I recommend saving up the extra $100 over the black star and get a Tubemiester 18 combo, it uses EL-84s, has enough power for small gigs, the power scaling down to either 5w or 1w both sound good, and the built in direct box works for larger gigs plus can be used to record silently. I like the head version, but wish I would have gotten the combo for the built in reverb

Re: Orange vs blackstar

Also in that generally price range you could probably find a used 15w orange tube amp either a TT or OR15

Re: Orange vs blackstar

I'll take Orange over Blackstar any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I'd take the lack of "features" for quality of amp and tones...

Re: Orange vs blackstar

Orange do better cabs than amps, if I had to choose I'd use a Blackstar Head. Not a fan of the Orange heads the only band who can make them sound good to me are Four Year Strong.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

I've spent hours at a buddy's shop playing through a Blackstar HT40 combo for hours, and gotta say, it made me rethink Blackstar amps in general. If I can't fix my Marshall combo, I'm considering a Blackstar combo myself. Haven't tried Orange, but from what I've seen, they are a bit on the pricier side from my understanding.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

The Blackstar is quite modern sounding. If you like the really preamp gainy type sounds then it will probably do well.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

As a recording producer I'm biased towards Orange. As a player I'd choose Blackstar any day. I hope that would help you a little.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

I think the Orange amps sound good for Classic rock and Hard rock. A good choice IF you can dial in your tone. With your Les paul which by the way is a nice guitar. Epiphone makes wonderful guitars , Your gonna have good sound with either amp.

The BlackStar amp is also a good choice for Classic Rock and Hard rock. Dialing in the gain just right can really get you some of that ACDC ZZ top type tones with maybe a Tube Screamer in front. Even without a Screamer , these amps have that tone when dialed in the British side of the ISF. Beautiful Mid range and very very usable.

For me it would come down to the clean channels. Which one sounds better for what yo do , how you like it etc. The Gains on both amps are very up your alley and I can see why you selected these amps. I don't like the Blackstars clean but thats my opinion. I don't care for the Orange either.

If I had to choose between these 2 I'd probable work with the Black star as I think it has more abilities to dial in what you want.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

I'd go with Orange. Great build quality, tone variation and Customer Service. Blackstar is an ok amp dont get me wrong. But their customer service is horrible if you ever need to use it.

Re: Orange vs blackstar

If I were you I'd go with the Orange, they're just better in almost every aspect except for headroom? Orange amps break up fast, because that's what they are supposed to do? For the styles of music you've mentioned I think either would fit the bill, but the Orange is just made better?

Re: Orange vs blackstar

I've played both Blackstar and Orange gear and for versatility I prefer Blackstar but if all your going to be playing is hard/classic rock you may like the orange better but you may not. If you can try out both with your own guitar and pedals hooked up.

Re: Orange vs blackstar - CR60

Re: Orange vs blackstar - CR60

Of course, I am one lone voice in the wilderness, with me and my CR60 shouting out to the world. I've had the thing since late last year. If you get one of these, I suggest you plan on changing speakers. The original speaker, also known as The News to the World, really leaves something to be desired in the clarity department.

Thanks to a recommendation for a V30, I decided to install an Emmence Governor. It made a major improvement clarity and tightened up the gain channels
