I'll let you guys know all about this pickup once I get it into my Gibson SG bridge to replace a Fred....Once in awhile I do branch off from the Duncan stuff to try some other new stuff,but I'm still pretty much a Duncan guy so please don't beat me up(Too bad).....:laugh2: :laugh2:

You guys all know I Like to stay open minded about gear...A good example is my tube amp vs ss amp choices....

This new pickup is getting pretty good feedback,so we'll see what my ears and instincts tell me?

I reallly love how the vPAF/vhPAF combo sounds in my McNaught Singlecut. Even with high gain, chords ring very clear and single notes have plenty of thickness and bite. The vhPAF pup NAILS that early VH sound IMO. The neck pup sounds AMAZING clean.. very clear and bell like. It sounds great for leads as well. Everyone that hears/plays my McNaught remarks on how great it sounds.

Appreciate the support guys.That says alot about each other's character...

I only ordered for the bridge spot of my SG,as I have a stock 59N in the other position that I like alot....I have a Fred in the bridge now and I Like it an awful lot,but I just thought this VPAF Hot might be kinda close to the Fred,but maybe a bit warmer,smoother,and just not as toppy...The Fred has great note articulation,but it also has slightly raised mids...Guess I'm thinking this new pickup might remind me of the Fred but be a bit more vintage sounding,but with a hotter overall 9k wind compared to a vintage 8k wind....Hope it works out?

I could have went with another 59B/Custom Hybrid,but I really wanted something a bit different for my SG...The Fred has been pretty great,as it also has mis-matched coils,more harmonics,and cleans up great,but the mids are more up front..Naturally I could go back to the Fred or make another Hybrid if this one sucks? I liked being able to order the double cream bobbins,but I'll be putting a Dimarzio nickel cover over it anyway...LOL

hey, i ordered a double cream tremspaced one to try in my charvel in place of a '59 so i can give a review of the difference in that setup once it gets here and i put it in.

Every clip I've heard made with these VPAFs sounds incredible. I'm anxious to hear what ya think John.

AFAIC, a good pup is a good pup, I don't care who makes it. Currently I can't find anything thats as versatile as the BB pros and 1/2 that isn't going to cost me $400 for a pair I'm looking forward to getting the 10KPAF custom shop pup, but if that doesn't work, BB2 will go right back in the R8!

BTW... I have a GREAT clip of VPAFS in either an R8 or R9 through a VHT Deliverance by a fellow named Brian Kahanek that I found on Harmony Central sev months back...low to medium gain stuff. PM me your email addy and I'll email it to ya.

Thanks Jeff.....I need to wait and see what the consenus is on this new 10K Duncan pickup,but meantime,thought I'd buy something already available and a new pickup thats getting great overall reviews...

Hope the 10K new wound forum pickup works out for everyone,but I'm going to pass on it for now..

Here's what I think you might find with the 59 in the neck and VVHot in the bridge. The VVHot will have a "demensional sound" (Dimarzio says it's 3-D) and the 59 will be more direct. I don't think that you will get the harmonics of the Fred (although, I have no problem with getting harmonics with mine). I feel the guitar breathes a little more than with the 59 (I have a strat loaded with a pair of 59s and compaired it with my Wolfgang Special with the VVPaf and VVHot) and is definately not as bright as the 59.

All in all, they are both great pickups and will both do the VanHalen thing very well along with a number of others (Steve Vai's for the Love of God comes to mind).

Thanks for the great heads up! Well I've read about the 3D sound and the space this series gives.Guess I'll have to see if I Like the VPAF Hot bridge first before I decide on the VPAF for the neck,but what you tell me has pretty much been what I've read so far...
