Origin 20 head? Who has one?

I just bought one on a whim and it's supposed to arrive today. Looks fun. Clips all sound great.

I have a few cabs I can run it through. Anyone with experience got some feedback?

Please post up a review when you run it through its paces.
I’m very interested in this amp too but unfortunately haven’t had the chance to play one.

Re: Origin 20 head? Who has one?

What's it supposed to be?

Name implies it's closely related to an early vintage circuit, but which one? What can it do unmodded and without pedals?

It’s a one channel circuit modeled after an early plexi.
On its own it does a good plexi tone but I think a lot of people are using it as a pedal platform so you can toggle between a more classic plexi tone, then boost it for a more modern tone.
It looks like a promising amp from the videos I’ve seen.

It was either the origin or the new DSL series. The origin (for now) won out on simplicity and plain old good looks

Re: Origin 20 head? Who has one?

I played one at low volume without a pedal in a store and immediately noticed it’s not an amp to play at low volume without a pedal.

Re: Origin 20 head? Who has one?

All the video demos I've seen on youtube make it sound great. It definitely sounds like an 'older' Marshall flavour - which if you ask me, is where Marshall amps really shine. but you need to crank em - and at 20w this is doable :)
They're not made in the UK, but that probably doesn't matter much any more. The attractive thing about the Origin 20 to me is (in combo format) its super portable and becomes a Marshall version of a Blues Jr. It doesn't have reverb, but the EQ controls and gain/MV make it quite an attractive product. I like reverb in my Fenders and good gain structure/controls in my Marshalls.

If you get one, please post a review and some sound clips (without effects)!

I agree with your thought process here. Any boost/od pedal can take you to higher gain territory if needed. And since they included an fx loop, reverb/delay etc is easy to integrate.
I’d personally opt for the head version but that just personal preference.

I only sat with one for about a half hour at GC, but I most enjoyed the half power setting with the gain and volume both around 1 o'clock, and the tilt slightly bright.

Easily loud enough for a drummer, and with enough breakup to be really fun. Kind of rubbery to play, but very dynamic. The 20 watt setting is more strident with less breakup, and the low power mode is mushy, IMO.

So I had a little bit of time with this. Ran it through my 4x12 and I can verify a few things.

1. For 20 watts......this sure gets fuzzin loud. Like I had it on 2 or 3 the whole time and it was no joke.
2. To get it to break up you have to get loud. Even with the gain boost on. That's fine but it's a bit outside of what I was expecting.

I still need to use it with some pedals and to play w/ the effects loop and see if that makes it more manageable.

The presence and tilt function......prob good if you're in a band and need to cut thru a bit more. For me, rocking out to my sock drawer or my kids.....not needed.

That said, still fun and a different flavor than my OR15 and Blues Jr. Need to try it through some other cabs before I figure it all out. So far so good.

From what I've heard the Origin's preamp is set up to mimic a Superlead with the channels jumped; the tilt control sets the mix between the two. I've never played an Origin, but my bass player used to have a '73 Superlead with a PPIV master. I liked to run the bright channel wide open with the normal channel on 6-7; enough for it to be full but not mushy. I'd probably start with the tilt between 1 and 2 o'clock to capture a similar tone.
