I know there's:
Laney
Splawn
THD

Who else makes amps that are very close to that Marshall Plexi sound?

Re: Other "Marshalls"

H and K.
VHT makes a marshall pumped on crank (the pittbul Ultra lead CLX)

That's all I can think of right now.

Re: Other "Marshalls"

you can get suprisingly close with peavey xxx's & jsx's

set the damping on loose & have fun

whats weird is you can get closer with the XXX (imo) and it has 6l6's

Re: Other "Marshalls"

As long as you buy an amp with EL-34's, it's going to have the Marshall flavor.
That new blue Traynor or Carvin Legacy might be an inexpensive alternative.

Re: Other "Marshalls"

Barring the Fargen, none of the above mentioned IMO/IME get a Marshall "plexi" type sound..."plexi" being the key word. All can do Marshall-esque tones however...throw in Rivera, Bogner, and a host of other "boutique" amp companies as well.

Don't forget Voodoo for a "true" plexi type sound (V-plex)

Re: Other "Marshalls"

This really should be 2 different things...amps that are kind of like a Plexi and amps that are Plexi clones...

CLONES
-VooDoo V-Plex
-Roccaforte
-Splawn
-Blockhead

Not to mention the countless 18 watt clones that are out there now!

There are others but I can't think of them all right now. As for ampt that have a plexi vibe there arelots of them...my favorite is my Sound City, it has lots of that late 60's early 70's English tone, but I like it better that most Marshalls I have ever played! It has killer transformers (the heart and soul of a good tubeamp), it has a switchable gain structure (no early Marshall eve had this), and the tone controls actually work! (if you ever get to play through a real Plexi or even a reissue, you will notice that the tone control yeild vewry little change in the tone).

+1. My Epic 30 DC gives me the Marshall plexi tones when I need them. Super articulate and very dynamic. Pick light and it's clean, dig in and it gets that classic Marshall mid bite and crunch.

Aiken Invader

Budda amps are pretty Marshallish, no?

Reverends with the Schizo switch set to "Europe"

Re: Other "Marshalls"

Ahhh, interesting. Thanks, fellas. Can I get more info about the Sovteks?

I can vouch for that. The Crate V-series have that marshall sound too.
