Out of the closet

I pulled a couple of my guitars out of storage that hadn't seen the light of day for a couple years. The PRS SE and Oscar Schmidt goldtop were both voiceless - needing pickups. Slipped a pair of Pearly Gates in the goldtop and a used set of Lindy Fralin hum-canceling P-90's in the PRS. Installed some Switchcraft jacks while they were opened up. The sleepers are now wide awake and kicking ass. Can't wait to show them off next week at a little studio get-together with some clients.

Need to order some tips for the pickup switches. The goldtop is master volume only, the tone controls are not wired in. Left the usual setup on the PRS. Color me very pleased to have them sounding great. I'll give the Dean Caddy a rest for awhile.

Very nice

Y'all could have just not clicked on the links. I didn't.

But I really dig that PRS, and it isn't even my kind of guitar.

Making a whole post to brag about your guitars then expecting people to go out of their way to find your pix

You cared enough to make this post about a couple of guitars from the used department then want to act like you're too cool to actually post them

This forum is so god damn hilarious

So you're basically saying you're too lazy to click on a link? Hardly going out of your way. Does your mommy still feed you with a spoon?

Love that Goldtop. The zebra's suit it well. Although, with PG's, I think I'd wire up at least one tone. But that's just me. Enjoy.

Oscar Schmidt...digging deep there!

Knobs/switch need a little love. How is it wired?

Still, with a set of PG's....should sound great.

The Switchcraft pickup selector works as per usual, and the black knob is the CTS master volume running to the Switchcraft jack. The tone knobs are the stock pots with wiring removed. The black plug is to make people wonder what's going on. Very simple, foolproof, and rugged. Sounds great through the Marshall, Fender, or the Katana. Color me very pleased.

Next I'll probably yank the plastic nut for a nice bone nut and someday I'll think about some locking tuners. For a guitar I purchased for less than $200, the quality is very good.

Nice guitars I especially like the Goldtop. I have a couple of case queens I feel guilty for not playing. Maybe I will drag out my Ovation 12-sting Deacon today and take it for a whirl.

Rhetoric aside, let me give you an actual civil reason to avoid using links, because links that move a viewer out of this platform and can create a security risk -one even you may not be aware of. And most with this concern will not want to have to study HTML code to ensure that the link name even goes to the suggested destination.

It's better to embed the image here, for the sake of ease AND security for anyone wanting to check your bad*ss guitars

Im not saying it's an imperative for you -it's your thread -but if you want the reason to do so that's not a question of someone being lazy -there it is.

I'm glad to see those guitars getting some attention. The PRS is really cool, but I'm a sucker for Gold Tops!

Too many times older guitars that need a little TLC just get abandoned. Pickups, wiring, and a little polish can go a long way toward making almost any mediocre guitar better.

On a side note: When you go to grab the image link from Imgur, it's just as easy to click and copy the box with the "img" tags attached as it is the plain image link. So, really no difference in effort on the part of the poster and not a big ask by any means. Imgur makes it super easy. OP, if you want your thread to get more love, it doesn't hurt to make it easier for peeps to see your content right away without having to click back and forth and open new windows/tabs to see all the pics. No harm, no foul, just an FYI

pg set in the lp seems like a great choice, though i would probably want a tone on the bridge pup. the se looks great too, better with black than cream id say

I really enjoy pulling out a guitar I haven't played in a while, and remembering what it was that I liked about it.
It's like falling in love all over again.

If the goldtop were mine I'd put a dummy switch in place of the plug, just to make people wonder.
I'd tell people it was a boost powered by zero-point energy. Or an orgone accumulator.

Yeah. Last year a guy wanted to buy an orange Tele I made several years ago. It had just remained unplayed for years. I got it out to demo to him how it sounded and all I could think was, "Damn this thing sounds and plays so amazing, I hope he decides NOT to buy it".

I did a build for a friend and filled a hole in the pickguard with a mini toggle. He told people it was a 0 db boost. Then there is this

Lee Sklar once had a non-functioning toggle switch installed on his bass. When the producer asked him to change his tone, he'd flip it, doing nothing, and they'd say it sounded better.
