Ovation 1711 Balladeer

Re: Ovation 1711 Balladeer

Awesome, I didn't know they'd reissued that guitar. I used to own a similar deep-bowl, US made ovation with the 2-piece mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, and schaller tuners. It was an excellent guitar, I only sold it because I needed the money. The sound is very "big" and full. It can get very loud if you strum hard and use big strings. It's one of the clearest sounding acoustics I've ever heard. Most all wood accoustics sound very dull, loose, and dark to me, not the Ovation deep-bowls, they're more clear, tight, and bright sounding (not too bright, though). If you want more treble and a little tighter sound, go for one with the ebony fretboard.

Re: Ovation 1711 Balladeer

I have a Balladeer Special with the deep bowl and the preamp below that model. Not only do they sound great plugged in but the acoustic tone of those guitars is pretty good as well, unlike some Ovations that lack character and depth when not plugged in.

You should like it.

Re: Ovation 1711 Balladeer

They are really great guitars. I found it interesting that this model was discontinued, then brought back recently, mostly due to people wanting this sound again.

It was always one of the best sounding Ovations. Most guitars in the lineup have the shallow bowl, which in my opinion never had the fullness and volume of the deeper bowls. Cutaways are nice if you need to play up high, but again, I feel they also take away from the tone.

Re: Ovation 1711 Balladeer

I agree, I played my deep-bowl for years and finally went to the store and picked up one of the shallow-bowl cutaway. Totally different style. The mid-depth cutaway model starts sound a bit closer to the deep-bowl, but nothing beats that huge tone of the deep-bowl.
