It comes down to what you want in tone. I've got an OCD on the way, but have played my buddy's Keeley modded Bluesdriver. The BD is one of the most transparent pedals I've played. Nice broad range of gain. It is very touch sensitive and sounds incredible at low volume. In fact it did a great job of taming my 18 watt for latenight playing. I'll chime in later on the OCD, but I based getting one on all of the great reviews both here and on the LP forum and all of the sound clips.

Man, if you already own the BD-2, get it modded and save the other money involved for other GAS attacks... I have never heard John's spina-mod (nor am I sure he even does one), but I have had my hands on my buddy's BD-2 for nearly 2 weeks... Amazing plethora of tone.... from slight coloring of your amp to full gain with hints of your guitar's raw tone, this thing ROCKS.... Since I own the SD-1 and the DS-1, I'm not gonna go out and get a BD-2, but if reviews are trustworthy, the SD-1 mods take the BD-2 a step further in the gain department while still retaining that transparency reminiscent to vintage analog gear.... Even if you decide it doesnt have enough balls, I bet you keep it for the lower gain tones!!!

I voted second on the poll. There is no particular reason why I absolutely think the Japanese Boss SD-1 is the best on planet earth.
The SD-1 just sounded better at the time...yes, I tried the Tube Screamer of the day...and I still liked the SD-1. Both of them sounded better than a damned compress-y Big Muff.
Some people need a very particular tone before their mind/fingers/equipment come together, and inspire them. There is nothing wrong with that. I like any tone as long as it does not suck, but I have never had the money or will to spend gobs of cash just to find one piece of gear that sounds 5% better.
To be honest, this time of year I would rather talk about different tomatoes.:arms: :arms: :arms:

thanks a lot for the replies guys.
as for the tone,... i used to be a HUGE old school metal head, but then i discovered that the over-the-top all out heavy blistering old ''tallica/ maiden sound wasnt for me. so nothin too outrageous. i really just want something really colorful for thick n creamy classic rock and blues. somethin that just sounds natural opposed to sounding generic/metallic/stale ect. style-wise, right now im more into the black crowes, allman brothers sound. and even pearl jam's stuff. idk how good the hao would be for pushin my dsl50 into that type of sweet spot. since its supposed to be fenderish (59 bassman). i am really interested in the keeley idea but i really dont like boss pedals anymore. stock the bd-2 lacks flavor. im still tryin to learn more about the ocd and the maxon. OMG im sooo siked!!!!!:naughty:

My favourite overdrive/distortion pedal is by far and away the Ibanez Smashbox. Sounds nice though a valve amp, and it's GREAT for making a solid-state sound a whole lot better than it should. Built in noise gate. Smooth / Sharp switch for when you want to go all Dimebag Darrell on your unsuspecting audience. It can do uber-distorted nu metal, but I personally rely on it for "big-four" thrash. I've also used it for AC/DC, Blues and varying degrees of rock. Versitile thing, it is.
Then again, I play a squier, so what do I know?

Lovepedal Eternity... can do volume boost, overdrive and distortion all very well... interchangeable IC's make it really versatile. I've used it with Les Pauls, Tele, Strats through SLO-100 and Bogner Metropolis amps. Always a great tone.

I have an Analog Man modified BD-2, and the tone and versitility are fantastic. I also own his coveted King of Tone pedal (ver. 4 -- newest versioin), and those two together sound outrageous! It's also nice using a boost (like the Keeley Time Machine Boost) along with the BD-2.
I don't know a lot about Keeley's BD-2 mod, but my guess is that the typical mod does not make the BD-2 a true-bypass pedal.
