Oversees Kramer & Duncan Design

I posted a picture of my guitar (see my thread from yesterday) called "Kramer Identity Issue". I did not hear anything so I did my research.

I know this is not a guitar constuction forum, but there are a always questions on type of woods, brand, etc and what SD's are best suited...Sometimes oversees guitars and Kramers in particular come up...so maybe I can help here.

Anyways my findings are this: My guitar is an overseas Kramer 100 series stock with Duncan Design PUPS and a Floyd II. Exact model number is a 615. I think when many of us hear this we think automatically...plywood body, JUNK.....My guitar is solid maple, not laminate, not plywood...If you find earlier years 87,88 of these guitars, you can find solid bodies and I got lucky, but be careful, because Kramer at the time was cheaping out and you could easily end up with plywood...

Anyways I paid 40 bucks for this guitar, solid maple and the neck just kills, I just have to find the right SD for it.

For solid maple? JB or Demon in the bridge and a jazz, 59, or Distortion neck depending on your music preference.

FYI, all of the 100 series guitars I've seen were solid bodies either maple or alder. They were supposed to be mid level between the striker and focus guitars.

****....I've got both a demon and JB. I guess I should just try both and see what suits me best with my amp.

I'm just thinking second guessing. JB has the "Icepick" reputation and would maple as bright as it is, be too bright...Thoughts?

Re: Oversees Kramer & Duncan Design

JBs are extremely tight in a maple body but for some reason as bright as maple is, it actually tames the high end off of a JB. I'd also use a 250k pot for the volume as well.

Re: Oversees Kramer & Duncan Design

the JB sounds awesome in solid maple. actually, I can't stand the sound of the JB in any other wood except maple. maple isn't bright to my ears...it's just really focused. it's the perfect match for the JB.

Re: Oversees Kramer & Duncan Design

Cool, I'm gonna try it. I'll let you know how it sounds when done.
