P-90 as strat middle pickup

Hello you all:

I'm thinking about building a Strat with two p-rails in neck and bridge position and I want to put a regular p-90 in the middle position.

The question is, which p-90 should I put, a neck or a bridge version?
Btw, is it such a thing as a middle P-90?

Cheers.

The P90 has two big bar magnets in it. You may discover that this really wide magnetic field two bars create affect the magnetic fields of the other two pickups and change their tone even when the P90 is not on.

I've used neck models, but in retrospect, I'd use bridge ones if I did it over again. The middle position isn't a good spot as far as string nodes and energy goes, which is why middle HB's are usually a big disappointment. They sound weak and thin, and could use the boost of a hotter, warmer PU. Same goes for P-90's, as I have a couple Phat Cats in the middle slot of HHH guitars.

It depends on what you want out of your middle pu. Thick lead tones, okay. But I love quack, so thin and weak is better in the middle.

Conventional wisdom says put a neck version in the middle, but I've found out that a bridge position ALMOST always is better in the middle. However, I think most (?) players use the middle p/u as only a notch position thingie- a pick-up whore, if you will. I generally like to use the middle by itself, so bridge versions usual have more personality (more mids, less piercing highs). generalizin' here

+1. A middle PU should be able to stand on it's own, and therefore should have a good tone, for both rhythm and solos. A bridge P-90 will do all that better than a neck model.
