Hello Newbie to forum played 40 years 10 pro on the road and many in studios...BUT

I need to ask a question regarding P-90 orientation in my SG Upgrade.

Some background.
I'm former geek god if you knew my aliases(s) you'd know..

60 years old sitting on my butt on an island with too many farting schnauzers (none are mine -the farts that is) that's why you get a dog in the first place...ESPECIALLY, if you are married and like crafted beer =DOOOH!!!. :nana:

OK so i occasionally just buy guitars off the rack i like the vibe of, sometimes i play them sometimes not because i know i can make then play (with the help of Mike Lull's Plek machine (incredible three guitars so far incredible play ability ALL of my guitars IN SPITE of the fact some manufacturers use a plek machine). just picked up a epi P93 looks like a fun one to rebuild. the SG mods i am documenting and using calipers and crap on....whith a mad as heck wife cuz i'm using the kitchen counter :eek:. WAIT until during the holiday season she sees a freaking 3.6L Porsche motor bolted to HER workbench (i have taken out insurance for my body parts...and in London the odds are 4,237:1 i won't survive the discovery (new cams and seals etc Jenevy TBI, MoTec going in) etc etc.....

guitar and bass necks settle and tweak a bit after production so every few years i take them in for a "tune up"

now let's get to the question

Two Duncan ANTIQUITY P-90 Pups HOW DO i ORIENT the pickups because i think one is reverse wound and the magnetic relationship is opposite i believe than the other (clear marked as NECK BRIDGE BTW[/B].

SO

do i orient the PICKUP'S soldered connection to the shielded vintage cable that connects to the pot. do i orient both pups with the soldered and taped connections closest to the location of the controls I.E. looking down at your feet with the guitar in your lap (right guitar player) not a leftie

or do the soldered connections point opposite and face up towards my head...OR

do they go in the opposite orientation to each other I.E. one pup with soldered end +the tape facing my head with guitar held normally and the other pup the soldered and taped connection faces the opposite orientation.

Sorry i have a bit of brain damage from and operation awhile back so it may be kinda's mis-jointed. I am splitting for awhile when i come back i will check for comments. I will appreciate any advise on the orientation issue. :13:

also if any of you have questions relating to the guts of gear all the way from atomic to server level in music industry, or any aspect explained as in ADC, or op amp usage etc etc feel free to ask, Ph.D. in high power lasers/electronics and i taught computer science in college while at Microsoft. :eek::eek::eek::eek:

thanks guys - MR MR you should see my SSID (i 4 here) in play in displayed in pure hex it isn't very nice....but every craft that goes in an out of Puget sound has to go by me....

i know pilot or two ...so on late nights i hear the blasts in the code on the horns and i know one of my Porsche club pilots is bring in or our some large ship....

outta here any info on the P-90 issue is appreciated and me...all the shrinks blew their brains out so fixing me is hopeless!!!....later - and thanks - Rollo

Physical orientation won't matter to the magnetic or wind reversal. Often you put them in so that the cable is closest to the wiring channel.

Next time see if you can stretch things out a bit and write more to keep us occupied.

EE with 40 year of designing and being awarded patents i can figure out simplistic wiring, the capacitor values are incorrect according to the vintage wiring .022Uf 047's for tele etc...but who knows might be worth a try eh? that is why i have three capacitor value sub. boxes....one is dimed with the best off the shelf ROLLED films...

now that the BS is outta the way...let's try again...each P90 i am putting in has the typical connections i have dealt with since i started routing Les Pauls in a music store in Sacto '71. Seymour maybe unbeknownst to him made me a set of tele pickups for one of the first 52 RI's i needed really bad - for a tour (bus HATE IT) felt like that cats from Blue Bros in the country god ole boys bus (the cat that drove the bus and was the leader of the good ole boys was a party bud in the valley. i used yo play in a poop kicking band and only stunt folk could come in that tav...seriously, peanut shells on the floor...he recently died but was hilarious he was so many generals and colonels cowboys in many of the movies i watched as a kid...but my last tour as a backing cat was like that a killer bus, couple teles, super reverb RI, twin RI deluxe reverb RI and a boogie MK IV +4x12's cabs depending on the vibe of the gig...in a freak bus with the rest of the folks gear (plus a very lame trailer the damn bu pulled).....l....as the wife and i took in the mai tai's and grub connections on the pier....'82 ish S.B.Pier) the question was answered above correctly as backed by Mike Lull and a friend in Hollywierd hills who is one of the measure the screw weight tweaks one encounters in life....

i simply was a bit confused by the fact one of the pups is RW i believe the bridge side (medical pot - does that at times- old and it's really a need not a gaming of the system). anyway the answer that was common although it can produce unwanted stresses on the cable as is...to have the end of the pickup that has the taped Pup to cable connection. another issue i didn't like was that the whole pup basically is sitting on it's pole pieces not much contact there so i will make a block, with screw trough, and a escape route for the cable as to produce the less stress as possible.

prior to looking at Jason's vids (i am taking the epi P93 over there and have him roll me some good ones), i am in the arduous process of yanking a 335 with P90s not a 330 but a 335 burst with two P90's old construction from a good friend's grasp

another good source for nubs, yeah don't try to mess with a cat that blew atoms from experimental silicon compute devices deep in the atomic level at IBM san Jose (killer laser i built or that one...) .047...come on???...unless you have a trick no one i hear or know of knows with .047's although since both apps are single coil the 047's may work and allow more bass...i'll they it i just have a ton of puss .022's

naw, the answer is build a block system like Jason did., however my version two (my first gave me right on 3/64's below string pressed at last fret

now it is said by man that with a P-90 if the coils are low and the pole pieces are tweaked (commonly to the neck radias and then dialed in from there with complete low coils with extend pole pieces equate to a fenderish sound...so i hear pup movement...became a mess an issue with my soap bars and crap....so i have decided

i am going to level the floors of both pup cavities...then make killer on the money spacers from mahogany (my excuse to escape the island and get great mex....and pico - KILLS) and two wood sellers some who sell to the cats by Burlington that put out the wood to most builders....a cool place.

then i'll trough the piece to nest the protruding pole pieces and bring the coils UP close and flat pole pieces with MAYBE a twist on them or not so the pup base lays on wood and not balanced by the protruding pole screwol
i simply a little while ago did not like the "p-90 balancing on the pole piece...pissy transfer of energey to the pickup from the wood

like i said documenting it and will notate as required..

Another great suggestion for you........

Lay off the "medical" mj (or whatever else is in your system) for a day or so before your next post. Then we may even be able to decipher 1/10th of what you are saying (trying to say).

Thanks all...yeah i musta had good stuff the night i wrote that...just had 6 p-90's wound for me to dink with....but it did cross my mind when i accidently took out a compass and the 1st string end on the neck was north and the same spot on the bridge was south....freaked out even a burnt geek.

since i built up the innards with mahogany to get the usa gibby classic full of wood again and many assembling and disassembling attempts until sounding right no quacks, nutting just pure tone so much so- it killed my 'wreck Rocket....a good thing indeed

yeah, i was a prof 2 timing the S/W co i worked for so i had to get verbose-....matter of fact the damn students pleaded with me to smoke a tad before lecture....

"(or whatever else is in your system)" Whidbey Island Roaster's BLACK lagoon frigg'n coffee...and mechanical induced brain damage - weird stuff PPCS (Shell Shock).

BUT I LOVE this pair of antiquities on the old SG screwed to wood right at the sweet spot, Vintage wiring and film cap. Being OLD I have collected stuff like black cats and stuff I never thought much of until someone freaks over the fact I have a vat of “real” Black Bee’s wax” or Astons etc…

Wait until I bring out the chips I have stashed …to rid myself of. - like old tubes to some....to me.....new shiney monkey boy toys.....

I'm with Doc on this one.

Remote problem solving is demanding enough without having to tease out the problem to begin with.

Direct questions prompt straightforward answers. Waffle breeds impatience.
