I recently decided to keep an Elitist SG that I was planning on selling, I think I want to try some P-90's in it. I keep hearing that the P-90's made for a humbucker route don't sound exactly like an actual P-90, close but not the same. I am wondering why Duncan, Gibson, Dimarzio etc. doesn't use the same P-90 pickup and put a wider ring to cover the humbucker route? If that is what they do why would the pickup sound different? Sorry if this is a stupid question but it seems all the manufacturers have pickups that are "almost P-90's", it seems like they could solve the problem with a little more plastic. I am assuming it is a marketing thing.
