P Green pickups

Do any of you guys know anything about the P Green pickups listed in the Custom section? My uneducated guess is that they are out of face Seth Lover /Antiquity type PU's (?)

Re: P Green pickups

Rumor has it that they are Antiquity pickups with the magnet on the neck pickup rolled over to give the famous Green middle tone. I'm not sure if they use a special wind for the Greens or if they are just regular Ants.

Welcome.

Re: P Green pickups

I haven't really touched a guitar since i was forced to sell my 57 Goldtop RI when i got divorced. i swore that my next guitar would be anothe LP at leastthat good......well, i bought myself a 59 RI for Christmas:fingersx: I have heard that the current 'Burstbuckers' are not up to the standards of the older 57 Classic RI PU's, but i won't be able to tell until my new 18w arrives. My understanding is that, although Green reversed the neck PU, the sound came reversing the wires and you don't have to turn the pickup around to get that out of phase tone. :fingersx: Green is kinda my hero as far as style and tone, so i would eventually like to expirement with that. Yes, I actually plan to play my 59 RI and not just lock it up in a safe:laugh2: That's what it was made for.

Re: P Green pickups

Now THAT's a nice Christmas present. :) FWIW, the deal with Green is that somehow the magnet in the neck pickup got rolled (like a log) and that gave him that tone. But there are a few different ways to get it or get close to it.

Have you checked out the remastered "A Hard Road?" It's got a second CD with some great stuff, including an instrumental called "Greeny" that is tremendous in that understated Green way. There are also some nice versions of Otis Rush songs.

Not to spend your money for you, but you should buy the PG pickups and then write a full review for the forum. :)

i also won a Soultone 18w 212 in an ebay auction, so there goes the rest of my hearing. Powerbrake following close behind.
