P-Rail Bridge in the Neck? (Schecter C-1 Classic Mods) - Looking for some advice...

Hey to the forums!

First time posting in here... I'm hoping to get some feedback (no pun intended) from the wiring-wizards. I'll try and get some before/after sound clips and pics/diagrams of the wiring to make it worth your while :)

Here's the deal..

I've got a 2006 Schecter C-1 Classic with a JB in the bridge and Jazz in the neck. Looking to get more of a "strat" or single coil sound out of this thing when needed. The local music shop has a P-Rail bridge under the counter. My thoughts are to put that bastard into my neck position so it would be P-Rail + JB - and use the existing 5-way switch to give me some tonal options.

Looking for suggestions on wiring schemes, I'm most interested in using the 5-way existing switch to select between the rail (oriented so the rail is nearest the 24th fret), P90, and open to combinations with the JB whether it be split or humbucker mode. I want to put the rail closest to the neck, and with the bridge pickup it happens the Seymour Duncan branding will be upright as well. Later down the road would entertain another P-Rail bridge, in the bridge with some triple-shot rings. Right now just looking to hone my wiring chops for under 100$ and get some tonal versatility...

Here's a link to the current wiring:

Anyone wanna help a brother out?

Welcome to the forum!

I am going to suggest not putting the p-rail bridge in the neck. You're going to have some balance issues if you do. If you put it in the neck position, you run the risk of the neck being louder than the bridge pickup. Also if you use say the rail alone and switch to the JB they'll be a massive jump in volume. I think you can get a versatile and easy to use scheme by tweaking your existing setup. I'm not sure what type of switch is on the c-1 but you can replace it with a Schaller Megaswitch and get some options and you don't have access to at the moment.

This includes examples like the outer coils in parallel or running the neck humbucker in parallel. I don't know what your musical interests are but here is a pretty versatile scheme I dug up.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. I dig your Spike pic.

I wound up dropping some cash in a moment of weakness on a set of the P-Rails + Triple-Shot Mounting rings. Also sprung for a three way selector switch to simplify the wiring...

Figured this would give me the most versatility, the more I researched the idea of putting a bridge in the neck the more it sounded like the wrong way to go.... Will try and post some before/after pics on how it turned out. I would think the 3-way switch is a more straightforward combo with triple shot versus trying to re-use my 5-way in there already no?

I think you're headed in the right direction...P-Rails, Triple Shots, and a three way.

Any idea what the JB (SH-4B) and Jazz (SH-2N) are worth used? The covers are still in pretty good condition and I wouldn't need the black pickup rings anymore...

You're welcome and Thank you! I think the ideal setup for p-rails is in a twin humbucker guitar with a 3 way switch and individual volumes and tone controls. The real fun of it is exploring the tones you can get when it is in the middle position and the bridge and neck are on different settings.

Also if you're interested in trading or selling anything, we have a sub-forum specifically for that. I'd love to take that jazz pickup off your hands but have other things that need my attention.

After swap - not the best pic but you get the idea...

Switch Wiring - Almost Done.jpg

Soldered jumpers on the 3-way Fender Tele/Strat switch... So far it sounds good - there's a notable buzz when in Single Coil mode but it cleans up nicely - will try and make a diagram later as I got hung up on the switch jumpers at first...
