P-Rails and TripleShots in a PRS SE 24

Hi!

Last week I ordered and received my cream colored P-Rails and cream colored TripleShots (Thank you Mr. Wymore - very fast turn-around, really great price with the SD Forum discount - :thanks:).

I am set to do the install in my PRS SE 24 this weekend. My questions are:
  1. Should I replace the stock pots, cap and 3 way switch?
  2. With 1 vol, 1 tone, 1 (3-way) switch, should I change the configuration (of how it is factory wired) for added sound benefit/flexibility?
  3. Are there stacked pots so I can have the equivalent of 2 vols, 2 tones using two holes (i.e. like an active bass that has a tone pot with sweepable mids). If so what pots should I get and where?

Overall, I REALLY like the sound on the stock Korean PRS. I was going to add the TripleShots but because the stock pickups are 2 wire I decided to go with the P-Rails also. The stock electronics seem really fine to me, I'm just unsure if, from a quality perspective, they will last. Since I'm making a large financial investment to upgrade the pickups, ultimately is it worth spending a little more and replace the rest of the electronics???

Any one had experience installing these on the PRS SE's?

Thank you, Luis.

yes - they make 'stacked pots' ... get 500k audio taper concentric pots .... make sure your control cavity is deep enough to fit em ...
wymore's got em on his site

yes, you can change the wiring easily to incorporate 2V / 2T

Re: P-Rails and TripleShots in a PRS SE 24

Unfortunately the CTS cocentric (threads) don't have enough clearence for the PRS SE. Thank you for the suggestion though.

With that said, I installed the P-Rails and Triple Shots and I'm really happy with the results.

The neck single-coil (rail) sounds like a middle-pickup on a Strat (probably because my PRS SE is 24 frets and the neck p/u is much closer to the bridge than a standard H-H guitar). The two-rails combined sound great together - very usable Dire-Straits type sound.

The P-90's are great. Very meaty (compared to the rails) but definitely brighter than the HB.

I love the Hum Buckers setting in parallel. Very bright yet warm. In series they are much darker and very, very hot - great for the rectifier setting on my Line6 Flextone iii. I will be using them in parallel much more.

Very, very happy with this set up. I already have the Triple Shots for my LP Studio so now I'm very tempted to get the P-Rails for the LP as well. It will be a totally different sound there since the LP is so different than the PRS SE (i.e., unplugged, the LP sounds completely different than the PRS - The PRS sounds much more like my Strat unplugged).

Buy the P-Rail and Triple Shots - you will not be disapointed!!!
