P-Rails Caps and Pots?

Project is a ESP LTD EC-400 Gold Top.

Master no-load volume from Stewmac and two tone pots
with a Gotoh Blend 500k linear pot replacing the three way toggle selector.

Yes, will be using the Triple Shots hence the the blend pot to balance
different coils when both pickups are on.

My thoughts are 500k tone pots, but what taper would be more versatile
and especially what caps to cover all coil variations in each pickup?

I know there will be compromises but your input and experience is valued.

Cheers, Will

Re: P-Rails Caps and Pots?

Audio tone, but I'd recommend 1meg tone for the P-Rails as they can be rather dark. I'd use a .022uf for the cap as well.

Re: P-Rails Caps and Pots?

Many thanks mate.

Was considering .015uf caps and Linear tone pots.
Would the audio pots be too abrupt in a tone application?

Cheers

Re: P-Rails Caps and Pots?

I have found that linear pots have 95% of the change in tone between 0 and 3. I don't know of any manufacturers that use linear tone pots.

Re: P-Rails Caps and Pots?

What's a 'no-load master volume'? You want to cut off your volume at 10? No load pots are only for tone pots.
With dual gang blend pots instead of a toggle switch you a lot of volume in the both-on middle position. Stay with the toggle if you want to use the middle position.

You can make a no load volume with a dual gang pot. And the volume increase in the middle is only if they are wired in series with eachother.

Re: P-Rails Caps and Pots?

The no-load master volume pot I speak of is called JackPot, sold by Stewmac.
Check it out on their site as well as the possible wiring diagrams.

I'm wanting to try it on my guitars with master volumes that do not use a
Push-pull pot there, mainly Strats and some Teles.

I believe the Gotoh blend pot I'll be using gives full output of both pickups
in the centre detent position and gradually removes one pickup as you turn
towards the opposite pickup which remains at full output.

That's what I'm hoping happens in theory and the no-load volume pot
removes both tone controls out of the circuit at 10

The JackPot no-load pot uses a fancy earthing configuration.
Check it out at Stewmac.

Cheers
