P-Rails Help/Suggestions

I just installed a P-rails in the neck of my guitar. The P-90 is too bassy and the single coil is too bright. When I mix the single coil and the bridge pickup they're very similar and there's hardly a change in tone. The P-rails sounds fine in humbucker mode but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or ideas to fix these issues. Can the pickup be installed upside down? 20171015_150632.jpg

Re: P-Rails Help/Suggestions

That's why you aren't getting a big difference in tone combining it with the rail and also why the P90 sounds too bass heavy.

These two pickups just aren't that compatible. I'd put the Super 2 in the neck where it belongs and put something else in the bridge. A Super-D is the obvious choice.

If you want to keep the Super 2 in the bridge then I'd look into an HFH, Full Shred or Jazz; maybe a Bluesbucker. An EJ Custom bridge model could also be an excellent choice.

If you want to replace the Super 2 and keep the P-Rails, the options are plentiful.

You can certainly flip it for a different sound. But in my experience, there are huge differences in P-Rails settings. Like, really big. Each switch position (I was using Triple Shot rings) sounded vastly different from each other.
