P-Rails wiring question, into LP Junior

Hi, I picked up a P-Rails bridge pick up this weekend and intending to put it into an LP Junior and am also considering getting rid of the tone pot and putting in a 3 way switch to toggle the splitting of the P-Rail.

Has anyone got any ideas if this is even possible and if it is, is it going to be a routing nightmare or a simple solder and go? also, how would I go about it from a wiring perspective?

Well, if your guitar is only routed for a p90, then it won't fit unless you rout more width. One bit of good news is the a humbucker mounting ring is long enough to cover a p90 rout

If your LP Jr is routed for P-90 then you will need to rout it for a humbucker. If it's a Jr Special, then it's already routed for a bucker and the P-Rails will fit right in.

Wiring it to a three-way switch will only give you P-90, Rail, and parallel (which is a really good P-Rails sound). You won't get series, like a typical bucker.

To get the greatest range and versatility of tones, I would suggest mounting it with the Rail coil next to the bridge.

When you say you have the "P-Rails bridge", do you mean the P-Rails+, overwound and with A8 magnets? If so, you may want to put an A5 mag next to the P-90 coil. Two A8 mags in that overwound pup is just too much. But it works great with the A8 next to the Rail if the Rail is mounted next to the bridge.

Mention of the tone pot (singular) does suggest an Epiphone electric guitar wearing the Junior appellation. (Why does Gibson insist on screwing with its own legacy in this way?)

A Switchcraft-style, three-way, sprung leaf contact, toggle selector switch cannot serve as a DP3T on/on/on. It does not make and break contacts in the required sequence.

Normally, I - and numerous others - would suggest the SD Triple Shot mounting surround. On a guitar of this price, that could throw the project budget beyond the realms of common sense.

For the control layout of this particular Epi, a pair of high quality push-pull pots is the wisest answer. They can provide all of the switching functionality for two P-Rails pickups and, more importantly, they will be an improvement on the stock pots.
