I'm considering the P-Rails for my epi SG. Any P-Rails recommendations or condemnations yet?

Thanks

Re: P-Rails

Excellent pickups. Get them and a set of triple shots, add a couple of push-pulls for series/parallel and phase reversal and you have every tone under the sun, and then some!

Re: P-Rails

The most popular set of PU's here for an SG is a C5/'59N. Simple, effective. Good clean & with overdrive.

Re: P-Rails

I will have a P-Rails sitting in the bridge of my SG-X tomorrow. I will let you know how i like it.

Cool. I'm planning on a bridge change 1st myself. So I am very interested in your evaluation.

What PU is the P-Rail replacing please?

Thanks.

If you use triple shots, then you can not use push-pulls for series/parallel or phase reverse, since only two lead wires come out of the triple shot (Hot and ground)

No, this is not true. The Triple Shot has a hot, ground, and shield. Reversing hot and ground reverses phase, and you can put the neck pickup in series with the bridge pickup, still maintaining all of your coil selections (including local series and parallel) on a per pickup basis.

Thank you Frank. In my Warmoth that will be arriving in April, i'm putting P-rails, triple shots and a push-pull for series/parallel. Only reason I'm not doing phase reverse as well is because I don't like the sound of out of phase pickups, but I could do it if I wanted.

Re: P-Rails

Just got home from work and the P-Rails is installed...it replaced a Duncan CustomCustom humbucker.

So far I really really really like it through the amps i messed with at work.

I will start my own thread for a detailed review after running it through MY amp and pedals...

Sweet. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Re: P-Rails

A really GREAT bridge PU for an SG is a C8. Man, it's big, full, but bright. Great clean and overdriven.

I also love the P-90 in an SG neck. I haven't tried a P-Rails, but since I'm a real P-90 fan, I think that would be a real good companion for a C8 bridge and with lots of tonal options.
